A $250k market cap token goes under and it makes the front page of HN. I think that sheds light on both the bias and extent of knowledge of the average HNer with regard to blockchain tech.

Yeah, I hear you on that. Another possibility is that NPR is trying to manufacture a sense of mystery or surprise as journalists often do with science stories. A bit less nefarious but also sort of annoying in its own way.

Seems like apples and oranges. What does any country really have to lose by criticizing Myanmar? Not much. On the other hand, criticizing China comes at a cost because they're a powerful country. So countries are probably less willing

Not necessarily. The current verification algorithm doesn't have any useful side effects other than verifying that some amount of computing happened. That will even be true for whatever computation happens as part of proof of stake whe

Completely agree. I will never look at LeBron the same way ever again. I mean I always knew he was a self-centered celebrity like the rest of them. But I never considered that he or any other American celebrity would stoop that low. It'

Amazing that the Chinese government in power today is the same as the one that deployed the tanks in that photograph to mow down its own citizens. Even more amazing that American celebrities such as LeBron James and John Cena see it fit to

It's not so simple though. Because even trusted curators and media organizations still feel obligated on some level to maximize engagement. To compete with social media, they often end up promoting and peddling similarly terrifying, pe

I think this must be happening on every social media platform in some way. The fact is that people seem to love being afraid and anxious. Bad news spreads like wild fire. All that X bad actor has to do is just figure out any worrying take

But our "parents" are still largely in control? Wouldn't passing economic reforms probably be easier without a bunch of deluded boomers and gen Xers in Congress?

Sorry, but I think I can objectively say that a year in which a global pandemic occurred that took millions of lives and completely upended normal life for the majority of people counts as one of the worst years since 1920. The fact that
