The first time I read about this stuff I thought they were playing the Battleship game from when I was a kid, and didn't understand the importance. So I guess I must be one of the humans who has lost the game.

You will feel more judged when you score 67% like me. Edited to add: we must have followed different links though, mine only had three questions obviously.

I didn't consciously focus on speed. I just completely overestimated my ability to skim. Interesting. I think I actually would have done better when I was younger and used to doing these things in school. I obviously don't read as

I feel like in high school I would have scored better on this. I was overconfident. I skimmed it quickly, like anything I would have done at work, and figured I'd sort of internalize the main points. Like I think I do at work. Oops.

I'm curious what these tests are measuring if you say your reading comprehension is only 50%. Your comment here is completely articulate and sensible so you are obviously fluent in English. Edited to add: hm. I just got 67%. I guess my

Yeah, but that's always been true. The other poster seemed to suggest something had changed more recently.

I haven't been to Europe since before 2020. I assume we're not nearly as welcome over there now?

As hard as the original story was to believe, I have to say it's also disappointing that it can't really be true.

It would be a hard model to pick up and move over and just drop into place. The trades that have union halls for carpenters, electricians, etc., aren't normally working in anything as unstable or dynamic as tech startups. If I try and

Absolutely. Your personal time is that time which, in retrospect, the company didn't need you for. It's strictly a backward-looking definition.

I don't know what to tell you guys because I am not a fund manager. If any of you are, then I'll go with what you're saying. But I do know how large organizations work first hand, and I'm sure lots of us do on here. Who

I agree with that but I think we are on the losing side. This approach probably works for more people than it doesn't work. Also: "Clicking through now feels like expressing distrust in the tool, rather than just doing your homewo

Presumably these companies all have insurance policies and just weighed the cost-benefit of fighting it out for years in court. I guess I'm getting old but "gender reveal smoke bombs," this is really a thing?

Whew, good thing I read this story before re-mortgaging my house. This ought to be a wholly unsurprising analysis. I would say it feels like 2007-2008 again except that nobody feels particularly complacent nowadays.

When I was a kid, just after that in the 80s, there was a book series where the two main characters were friends who had coded their own custom word-processor on a home computer and used it to talk to ghosts. Also Wargames came out in 84 ab

I was looking at it from a more institutionalized perspective I guess. At least in my field, I know how this works because I see it play out. People are conservative and sometimes would rather be wrong with the herd as long as it means they

I guess that's true but put yourself in the position of a major fund manager. Would you rather explain "We lost 3% this year because of a dumb IPO because we track an index that includes dumb IPOs," or would you rather say, &

No joke the actor who played Cigarette Smoking Man (William Davis) has said that he got all kinds of mail from people who had "proof" of aliens and for some reason thought he'd be the right one to share it with.

Exactly all this. The whole idea of passing investing is "hardly any of us know better than the market as a whole." If you don't agree with that, then you don't agree with passive investing. Which, whatever. Live your li
