By interface, I assume you mean git's command-line interface? I agree; it's terrible. My impression is that projects like grit are far enough along that it should be possible to build an entirely new git front-end/porcelain on a clean techn

This is just a tiny toy I wrote for a class that my brother, who is a professor of neuroscience, is teaching. I love the idea of interactive math/physics/bio labs on the web. With the advent of tablet like objects, perhaps there's room for

I got a tiny app approved just last week. Total time from submission to acceptance: 33 hours. That's far less than I've seen on the previous three. Luck, or improvement, I'm not sure...

True. According to the USGS, New York gets 45.4" of precipitation yearly, while Seattle gets 37.2". That said, I'd like to find out how to compare the number of days with rain in both places. Seattle gets drizzle. The year I moved here we h

I tend to prefer Consolas to Inconsolata. Consolas' glyphs feel like they have more uniform thickness throughout.

This is a pretty good overview of some key deficiencies. I wish he would have left the "not backwards compatible" complaints out -- backwards compatibility is a well-known non-goal, and it's a non-issue how difficult (or subtle) porting cod

I can understand what's in it for Blippy when I grant them access to my transactions -- hell, it's a gold mine -- but what could possibly be in it for me except a little embarrassment about how often I eat at Serious Pie? The "don't overpay

Got it. I just wondered if there were standard-Django features you wanted to use, but couldn't (easily) without AEP. It sounds, however, like it was all the other in-package goodies that made AEP desirable. If there were a "GAE django start

Out of curiosity, why did you settle on app-engine-patch rather than use_library()?

Okay, I ponied up out of curiosity. Do not download this app . It does not work as advertised. It is slow, buggy (even the table display on the home screen has impressively bad rendering glitches) and, worst of all, it is not capable of lo

Precisely. This was a junior dev somewhere far away from Redmond making a terrible mistake. It's about to get thrown up to the highest level, and I can pretty much guarantee you that MSFT takes the site down.

I just updated my original post with a songite link. It's a very nicely designed tool! (I had trouble finding a sharable version of Weather Report's Palladium. Any way you can give me choices when I want/need them?)

You might find some other Reich tunes equally powerful, then. Among the best I've found for programming: Electric Counterpoint, Tehillim [Original ECM recording], You Are (Variations), Eight Lines (the re-instrumented version of Octet), and

Love the album. As an aside, if you're an Ableton Live 8 user, you can go download Fractales (both parts) as an Ableton Live Set -- part of their 10th anniversary celebration. It is fun to tease apart the track and figure out what makes it

You should try it. It is remarkably great, and while I can't speak to error rates I believe that it is on par or better than a good camera-based scanner. Also: using SnapTell with my decades-old textbooks in Greek religion confirms it's not

All iPhones have good enough optics to detect 2D barcodes like QR Code. Linear barcodes like UPC were trickier until the iPhone 3GS, which has variable focus camera hardware that also admits direct access to camera frames. On the 3GS, barco

I often refer to Git as "software of cruelty." I use it daily and sometimes still end up shocked by its behavior. The concepts underlying git -- a content-addressible filesystem, trees, commits, etc -- are elegant. They're nearly pure. The
