It depends on your needs. If you have the tools and skillset to set up and maintain your own endpoint, and you're willing to spend the time to do so (or you believe you can only trust it if you do so) then no VPN provider like us makes sens

Yes, I've used this stuff before. It's great. It's also not specifically tied to a scalable service, or directly integrated with billing and quota management, etc. We think there's room for both things depending on circumstance.

We've heard this from several people and are investigating what a reasonable model would be. (Bandwidth is the key driver of our costs.) I would say that our current (beta) pricing is stake-in-the-ground, so anything you can tell us about h

Hi gillygize, Our full terms of service and policies are listed here: https://www.getcloak.com/policies/ There are a lot of shady looking (to me, at least) VPN providers that make a big deal about how you can pretend you're in another cou

Hi Rob, What built-in stuff do you use (and who is your VPN provider)? While OSX is far better than most at making configuration of secure connections easy, we think there is still a long way to go. Cloak requires nothing but your username

Thanks very much. We put the pages together pretty quickly (MVP!), but I'm constantly in awe of how fast Nick (our designer) makes things look... solid.

Wow, that's not a very good way to use keys. ;-) We have our own authentication mechanism that ties into our billing and quota machinery. So no such problems with Cloak.

Hi kylec, There are a few components to trust. One component is trusting that the software does what it says it does. We're engaged with some reputable security consultants to ensure that we're delivering what we promise. We'll have (lots)

It's not quite true that these companies have no lobbying presence in the USA. The Poker Players Alliance operates out of Washington DC and represents all of the companies indicted today.

I'm reading "The Information" right now. Gleick's book takes a wide and multidisciplinary view of information. It traces our history through the lens of information and then turns to examine the cultural impact of Shannon's work. It's fasci

I suspect the answer is "yes" for most users. My understanding of how it all fits together, please correct if wrong: the default datastore is (strongly!) consistent and partition tolerant but sacrifices availability. The new HRD gives you a

The python runtime does not appear to do this in the specific case of submodule attributes. Right now, the Python bug against this indicates that it is considered a documentation bug... but my hunch is that it's an actual bug. I'll try manu

Interesting, thanks! I'm afraid I'm having trouble parsing your statement on dev_appserver's behavior. Could you clarify it? It sounds like you're saying that dev_appserver both does and doesn't set submodule attributes on parent module ins

The testbed API is exciting -- testing (python) App Engine apps has always been thorny business. It appears that support for integration testing, however, is not part of this release. How do you integration test your (python) app engine app

Despite Swoopo's self-description as an "auction" site, it is in fact a gambling site. Moreover, when you're at a casino you typically know your odds; with Swoopo, you don't. I'm happy with the argument that gambling is okay, but Swoopo sho

My perspective is a little more subtle than that. To clarify: "Pretty" is great -- desirable, even. But if "pretty" comes at the cost of using immature tools that may slow me down, or at the cost of forcing my development team to learn a ne

Interesting. To me, CoffeeScript is emphatically not JavaScript. There are new tools and, well, there's a new syntax. Semantically they may be (almost) equivalent -- but it strikes me as a far stretch to say they're the same, or that develo

Javascript is understood by most developers these days. CoffeeScript is pretty. (Edit: I don't think that "pretty" is a bad thing. I just... when is it the most important thing, or even high up on the priority list? Pretty isn't bad, but if

Syntactic sugar is all CoffeeScript can ever be. Is pretty syntax better than common-use syntax? (To be clear: I don't have a strong opinion. I'm curious what the community thinks the value proposition for CoffeeScript, HAML, etc is.)

Out of curiosity: What's with today's obsession over beautiful syntax? Shouldn't we strive for beautiful semantics, instead?

I've been a heavy App Engine user since the beta days -- even gave a talk at I|O 2009 about scaling with App Engine. I have clients that run complex GAE sites that handle millions of daily requests. I somewhat disagree with the author about

Interestingly, interruptive presidential security is a relatively recent development. Truman used to walk freely around Washington, DC and his security staff didn't do much to stop him. During the assassination attempt at Blair House, Truma
