Hardware switches are more expensive and less durable.

You're right. I was working under the assumption that Apple would have just went for TB3 if they supported those features. I'm not going to claim that I know too much about the crazy USB-C/TB3 specs though.

I would only do that with along side my MBP. I don't currently use a tablet though.

Nope. Apple would need to do a pretty decent amount of work on iOS to support desktop like behavior. I'm not sure if there's much sales incentive either. Which is a shame because Apple got where it is by pushing the best possible

It's such a shame that there's no thunderbolt 3 in the iPad Pro. I would love to ditch my MBP to just plug an iPad into a TB3 monitor and get a mouse, keyboard, drawing tablet, and charging with 1 wire. I can get close to that wit

If you have an engineer who's paid $100 000 a year with three weeks vacation, that's 407.05 a day. It starts to make sense that you'd buy $4000 IP for an operating system, unless by some ungodly powers they can write that in

I have multiple FPGA designs in use today. What does or doesn’t bother you is irrelevant. I don’t really care to explain the obvious net win that open source designs (and tools) are for society. The only argument I’d consider reasonable is

I would attribute the weird FPGA dev attitudes to Stockholm syndrome. I always get the most mind boggling replies in defense of the evil vendors when I criticize FPGA’s embarrassingly small amount of freedom. > [black box components] oft

GP is phrased pretty poorly and disrespectfully. Though I think there is a decent underlying point. People are generally pretty good at not putting questionable, critical parts into vehicles. Hopefully that holds for the software "part

This is such a neat idea. I can see building a Little, Free Library being an interesting project. Add a solar embedded stack [1] to it and you could add some fun features such as: shelf time tracking (maybe to replace never read books), num

Thanks for the links, they were good reads. Coincidentally, for those projects I did end up mounting to a tmpfs, syncing configs from a server, and writing them to a SPI flash chip with FEC. Fun to know that others suggest the same! I was j

I'm with you on this. It's similar to how every x86_64 OS guide goes through the ancient ritual of working your way up to long mode. Why not just use UEFI?

That's really nice. I remember having to use Read-Only on a few Raspberry Pi projects because they have a tendency to corrupt SD cards. Getting a free storage performance boost would really improve usability for my past use cases.
