Whenever I'd had to use irc I have a horrible flashback. I used to have to install really shitty software. Now I can use a browser. Not that this is perfect, but it's one less hassle. Then I have to find the server which is runn

When I read that sort of thing i'd like I'm reliving the 1980s, where everyone had that sort of "they live" (the movie) paranoia that they were being controlled. You can easily transcend all of that. Not the fact that yo

Surely if you're using software you should be capable of operating it properly? That's probably what might getting people into trouble. If you can't figure out how to send an email properly then you're flagging up to po

Heh, Google killed Reader so I could consider any alternative to Google before using their products. So it's been DuckDuckGo, Firefox, box.com, other OpenId providers etc. I still use gmail, because i only use email for boring stuff

Yeah, I used to think that way. Thing is, while you're sitting at home feeling superior because you don't use that horrible mainstream website that all those terrible peasants are using and would stop using if only they knew how

It's not really all that interesting, is it? It's what every business does; to try and make money from you. They make films you want to watch, books you want to read, music you want to listen to, and websites you want to read.

We're definitely not getting rid of the free plan. Well, not until current management leaves, we do badly, get greedy, get bought out...

"Why the downvotes?" Dunno, but I winced at "in the bot space". I hate anything that smells of marketing/management speak. Going forward/we reached out... just use normal language like a normal person.

I had a nightmare trying to free up space for an iPad software upgrade. I couldn't see what was backed up. The apple site had placeholder text in the area devoted to this topic. There was some way of syncing a folder with the contents

The camera app on Nexus devices just has none of the features any vaguely competent photographer needs, and that's ignoring the crap API Google has made available. OpenCamera should be the stock app (well, with a slightly more sane se

I thought the article was going to be about how a lot of software seems to be dumbed down so that less technical users can use them but that the more tricky stuff is either hidden away or just not present at all. I was wrong.
