While all of that is true, the supremacy of the US in the tech sector is entirely due to policy and culture, and has little to do with other factors, such as geographical wealth. What is holding us back here in the EU, is bad leadership and

It works as long as demand is high, which is true for the US tech job market but not so true for the EU tech job market.

His assistants are probably better employed doing research than messing round with spreadsheets. And the secretary might then not have the necessary competence for such a task. And if they employed a person for just such tasks, they would h

No, PINNs are precisely what you do NOT want to use for this kind of thing, because you are trying to take shortcuts that mimic the physics without actually caring about it being physically accurate (as long as it looks nice). Reading their

Frankly, you cannot see past the tip of your nose. Don't comment on how the law is applied. If nobody sued against discrimination, then discrimination laws would be useless. So fighting discrimination is a public good that we all benef

You have to go through 8 years of court sitting stress for those $3 million. From that perspective it is a sensible sum. And the way I see it, somebody has to fight injustice. Otherwise laws are meaningless. This guy did it, and that is his

I am really starting to hate this kind of journalism. There is a real story here, the gender inequality in South Korea. But it is dressed up into a ridiculous bunch of nonsense and portrayed as some kind of country wide "gender war&quo

Meanwhile in 2023, gender based discrimination against men is institutionalized. At some point I lost sympathy for the supposed struggle of these extremely privileged women. If you care so much about these crimes of the past, punish THOSE m

People care about social status because it brings about opportunities in the same way that wealth or natural talent do. You can also choose to live like a hermit, but then if you ever need do anything that requires the involvement of others

I tried that as well, but maybe I did not use it correctly. I did not see the full sharding that I was hoping for. I only saw results similiar to FSDP.

Why isn't there a framework that does all this automatically for you? I tried torch FSDP but it only managed to increase the memory to something like 150% of 1 GPU. I eventually ended up sharding my model manually with .cuda() and .to(

I wonder how much The Simpsons contributed to nuclear fear. No, but seriously, I only have one criticism. What about all the rest of the world? The developed world and the big developing countries might be trusted with nuclear fission, but

I live in Germany and I would say, that is very much the case here, in fact probably more so than in the US. And in any case, why would you expect this to not be the case? Should people in different living circumstances magically have the s

I agree with all you wrote. However, the question is then, how do you find somebody who shares the same views? Finding that special someone is the hardest part in my experience. Even if you can convince some to give you a chance, what are t

I think this bias is due to the frequency of times a hateful comment about that demographic appears on the Internet. How many times do you hear a negative comment about Scandinavians or Native Americans? Similarly there are very likely more
