This such an elaborate conspiracy, even if true, he's set himself up legally to all but have to acquire the company after Twitter beats him in court. This seems much less plausible than Elon is an impulsive person who likes attention.

I can almost envision a future where human devs write tests, code generating frameworks build code from a spec.

As someone who is fluent in Spark, pandas, and several SQL "dialects", at the end of the day I have to say I think all the query paradigms suck, SQL is just the best we have. I find it's "limitations" generally enfo

I think I'd be willing to take a pretty large pay cut to work at a company that does not tolerate this wasteful busy work. It's bizarre how it seems nobody really likes it, but we all collectively just keep it going as well.

I cannot tell if technology work has always been this way and I'm just too inexperienced to know it, or we are in the midst of a massive employment bubble. People are very excited about adopting new tech x for zero reason, writing lots

Cloud services are competitively priced. I'd honestly like to see some examples of people who invested the time to build cloud agnostic get actual ROE on that in terms of pricing concessions by negotiating with AWS/GCP/Azure

Yea it can be picking your own poison in some respects. My preferred workflow is something like spinning up a dedicated dev VM within your provider, install a standard image, then use a local text editor that's saving files over ssh or

That's a good point. I have started building x86 images on my m1. It's slooow. I don't have precise benchmarks, but think a 3-5x longer times to build. As far as running the application, will if you're cpu bound, you

It's actually pretty impressive how much faster Docker builds containers on M1 running in aarch Linux VM vs on Docker Desktop. But to your point about "how the machine is used", I've encountered very few devs who care.

Yea, I personally think local development is fraught with problems that remote resources solve quite well.

Just remember, containers don't just run everywhere. Your team will need to devote time to understanding multi-arch images and builds. If you're a python/data science team, I hope you have someone on your team that actually k

The US continues to fail to effectively clean up the 56 million gallons of high level waste at the Hanford nuclear site and others throughout the US. Nuclear waste is slowly seeping into the water table and the Columbia river. The site is t

The argument is that 1:1 instruction, or tutoring, is a superior way to acquire knowledge. Having lots of information available is great, but not a substitute.

So living on Mars would suck, and Alpha Centauri is too far away to be a real option. What's the point? So we can mine some asteroids? That seems so limited compared to the vision of people like Elon Musk and gang promoting the idea th
