I immediately thought that’s not totally fair due to the size of the Netherlands vs other countries. I asked Mistral to do an analysis: nearly zero R^2 for car ownership vs log country area, and it’s the same with proportion of urban popula

I think it’s a lot like R vs SAS or Python and not any departure from the norm. Mathematicians are not highly technical users that generally like programming. If you give them a path of importing someone else’s work they’ll do that instead

Basically every company I’ve worked for has had some sort of rubric like this. I don’t think that’s inherently bad, it can be quite good for consistency. I have quit companies that made their performance review systems too onerous/freq

Is the reload module very different than the base watch flag, and does the notebook editor use PyCharm/JetBrains' editor interfac, or is the notebook's editor completely embedded in PyCharm? --- As usual on marimo posts I hav

The big thing I read is Codeberg is for community projects explicitly now, not just your random non-commercial code. Personal use cases are now “might go unnoticed” and therefore not encouraged. Jeff’s dotfiles repo will probably never have

I'm able to use ROCm with MTP just fine (Qwen and Gemma). I use Lemonade and have only the ROCm installed through it (ETA: their llama.cpp version is a fork, not sure what is different vs the main trunk).

Most games play just fine at 1440 or 4K with upscaling. Cyberpunk ray tracing is a bad experience, but I just finished 007 First Light on ultra settings with an 5k monitor using FSR and it was 45+ fps the whole time. Targeting 4K with fsr w

SQL generation is quite good, 90% of the problem is data quality. The best thing you can do for your data agent is build a clean frontroom around your specific desired use cases -- with very clear documentation and obvious idiomatic join pa

In addition to the other comment mentioning rpm-ostree, brew is installed on bazzite by default and works about as well as it does on macOS. You can also use fedora toolboxes to create containers mounted on your home folder, though it is cl

Yes, gessoed canvas. Canvas isn’t a particularly good surface for charcoal, but I like having a very large work area

I’ve taken to painting with charcoal lately. I draw with vine charcoal, smudge and adjust, then wash it on canvas with a brush dipped in water, it makes a nice watercolour style effect. I suppose it’s more like gouache after reading this. I

I built some BigQuery workflows on 2.0 and 2.5 flash lite that are something like 6x more expensive with 3.1 flash lite. I tried 3 flash for months and it didn’t work using Googles own vertexai integration because it’s been in preview mode

Lemonade proxies your request to llama.cpp that it installs and manages. Is out of the box all local LLMs, but you can connect it to an API endpoint (supports OpenAI compatible or Anthropic compatible). I think it stores basic logs but if y

I second this. I used llama swap for a while before leaning into lemonade. The UI has improved a lot, but be careful as the most of the models default to very small 4K context windows by default. They’re doing some nice things with their Ha

Mistral medium is considerably better at writing than Opus. I’ve also found it very good at pulling info from pdfs. Even a complicated festival with multiple venues and timetables.

AMD ROCm has come a long long long ways since last year, but you'll probably be happier not dealing with AMD's software. I posted another comment with my experience with AMD 395+, I am overall happy and it's usable now, but i

I have the Framework Desktop with 395+ 128gb RAM Today I am pretty happy with it. LLMs are finally good enough (fast enough with MTP+MoE, but also just much better in capability) that I can fit local ones into real tasks, and I've used

I don’t know how anyone can look at the innovation going on at DeepSeek and come to the conclusion that China can only copy. Distillation and copying are how they’ve bootstrapped their models, but that feels not so different than Anthropic

I think 3.5 flash is trying to target agentic work, like Google Search or ADK (agent development kit) use cases. It’s something cheap enough you’d put out in front of your customers, and Opus is expensive enough you wouldn’t.

The US is really shooting itself in the foot here. The restrictions on LLM models like Fable has created a viable international LLM market where it was difficult to justify investment two weeks ago. As a non-US citizen Opus 4.8 is the best

This is task dependent. I find devstral (even though it’s weak generally) much better at writing and documentation than Opus. I’m actually now delegating all documentation to devstral and away from Claude, which makes a mess.
