As an occasional Javascripter, I've gone looking for this several times, and each time been bemused to discover it isn't there (probably just as an instantiatable EventTarget). Better package management might help, but some things are funda

They could be assuming that most web developers are using a framework which comes with its own development server.

It's compatible with normal USB2.0 and 3.0. No reason it couldn't be offering ethernet as well as power. At that point it does indeed sound quite compelling.

Keyhole wrote the predecessor to the Google Earth software, but while it's a great name for an imagery company, they don't run satellites themselves. Google did pay for a half share in GeoEye-1 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeoEye-1 ) and

You can improve things a little by flying in an elliptical orbit. Some of the KH8s have listed orbits with perigees as low as 125km -- but they're not that low for the whole orbit. They also didn't have particularly long mission durations

It's an appealing, nicely-produced video. Everyone in it has nice handwriting, even when writing on a low-friction screen. What about those of us who don't particularly like reading our own handwriting, let along sharing it with others?

$1.5B refers to the commercial resupply contract, which is quite separate from the COTS contract which funded the development and demo program. Just to add to the confusion, the next Falcon+Dragon flight could be end up being either CRS-1 (

SpaceX is private at the moment, but that's probably going to change. IPO timing is a regular topic of debate among SpaceX-watchers.

There will also be live streaming on the SpaceX website. They've invested in better video streaming infrastructure since the COTS1 launch, so hopefully this will stand up to demand. Everything worked well during the static-fire test a cou

This mission has been planned for a long, long time. There have been several delays for more testing. At the end of the day, it seems that getting the software right was the biggest deal, but they've done many many simulation runs. There's

This isn't anything to do with websockets. These are raw, unadulterated sockets -- but only available to Chrome extensions, not normal web pages. I'm pretty certain Mozilla extensions have been able to create sockets for a while, and the s

I've been wondering about this, and I think it's totally doable so long as you don't get stuck thinking about a literal "robot delivery man". The model I was considering was more along the lines of 1) park as close as possible to the targe

The Acorn version was called Zarch. It was later ported to some other platforms (Amiga, in particular) and renamed Virus. Lander was awesome.

The helium is just a recirculating coolant. In the test rig, it's being cooled by boil-off of LN2. In a flight configuration, using cryogenic propellants as a heat dump seems logical.

That's plausibly true, but I for one think it's a bit sad if isolated blogs are seen as a problem rather than valuable decentralization.

Oh, I'm pretty sure they will, and probably rather less than 10 years. The interesting part will be how well the overlays can be meshed in with the "real" world.

I didn't read that as specifically referring to military service. Many countries, at least in continental Europe, have non-military national service, or at least a non-military option. It's not a system I'm terribly comfortable with, eithe

I've never got the impression that programmers as a whole "don't like sport". Possibly they're less likely to be interested in the local $socially_conventional_team_sport, or at least more likely to admit to the fact.

As with most first-person WebGL projects, things go wrong when the mouse pointer leaves the canvas area. Is there anything that can be done to "capture" the pointer (that isn't horribly open to abuse...)?

Falcon 1e seems to be pretty-much on hold at the moment. The Falcon 1 launch site on Kwajalein has been dismantled. As far as I can tell, SpaceX are focussing on deploying smallsats as secondary payloads on Falcon 9, rather than flying th

Also wondering about WP7. Right now it's clearly a non-starter, but there do seem to be plans afoot for a native SDK. Assuming that happens at some point, would an alternative browser be possible?

Just installed it in the UK. I'm guessing it's a localization issue. Although for a Beta, I don't see why they can't just offer everyone who's keen to try it the en-us version.

Some (not all) of these cases would be helped massively if the JVM gained an equivalent of the fixnum/flonum types from the LISP world. This has been proposed kind-of seriously in the past, e.g.: http://blogs.oracle.com/jrose/entry/fixnum
