like daveschappell says below, the problem (or one problem) is that their products don't match their marketing. Maybe Basecamp is really good for a specific niche, and maybe everyone knows that, but that's not how 37s positions it on their

Obviously you need to worry about revenue and profitability, but a strong culture can help get everyone on-board to be excited and work hard to get there.

They're related, so until you have different people to fill each role, yes, they're the same thing. (The marketing person will own advertising, and the SE will own web-dev)

Good point, I've just seen a lot of 'screw business school, spend your money on a startup instead' type posts recently, which certainly wasn't the case in this post.
