Microgrids have been making a lot of noise for a few years now. I think it’ll still be common to get your electricity from the grid in most towns and cities in the future, especially in northern Europe; we just don’t have the levels of inso

Dude, they are commenting on hacker news… someone brings up Kessler syndrome in basically every post about starlink or even space in general. It’s up there with microplastics and e-ink displays as a HN meme.

Your analogy in 1. sounds off to me. It’s definitely like bringing your own food, but the already well equipped kitchen and chefs will prepare it for you.

I know people who bailed on marriages early and I think, yes, this article has some good advice, but it’s also very important to fail fast where failure is inevitable. If this inevitable failure only becomes apparent after you’ve had kids b

You could stretch the definition of “required” here to include the land required for housing development to fund the railway ? The railway is a common good, and the housing development profits are just a means to those ends.

Why does this reactor need a higher percentage of U-235 in the fuel than other fissionable isotopes ? I thought the idea of a fast reactor was that it could fission U-238, Thorium, etc ? i.e. why can’t you feed the Natrium reactor the usua

If you drink ~19 litres (5 US gallons?) of water every day you will not survive long. That’s about an order of magnitude more than is recommended under normal non-strenuous conditions.
