The energy requirements of bitcoin might go some way to explaining why people get a bit worried about if it’s got a real purpose or not ?

Nothing is perfect, there’s probably good reason for this behaviour … but it is rarely something that happens anyway. and you know, deleting a key for the state lock (one that explicitly tells you when and who created it) ain’t that hard o

Depends what it’s stuck doing, but you might ctrl-c it and later manually unlock the state file (by carefully coordinating with colleagues and deleting the dynamo DB lock object if you’re using the s3 backend) when the outage is over.

and 900 AU is 0.014 light years. so you can get 10km resolution on a ~7100:1 object to focal-point distance (what’s the right term for this?). seems pretty good.

Beej: thanks a million ! I learnt all about sockets and select() from your guide back at uni over 20 years ago. I was trying to make an autonomous model helicopter for my 3rd year project, fuel oil powered, with a scarily large rotor diame

Being able to freely walk across the road knowing that I have right of way and that the traffic is guaranteed to stop and let me pass sounds like like paradise compared to how things are currently. I’m not sure I’d be all that sympathetic t

Here’s an idea to speed up PRs - don’t do code reviews on every PR. Gate your PRs with automated checks for anything you really want to enforce (docs, formatting, tests, etc)… but when it comes to everything else, leave that to dedicated co

It’s such a bunk argument to suggest that because there are other countries physically inbeween the refugee’s homeland and Britain that they are economic migrants by the time they get here. If they all settled at the point closest to their

I mean, it looks a lot like the DLR in London which is a bit of a raised concrete eyesore too. But it’s not what you’d choose to plonk down in Vienna or Bruges, I agree.

I love these small but significant improvements that are kind of obvious but were hidden in plain sight. For years I didn’t even consider there was an alternive to writing in paragraphs, despite using git and markdown daily.

It’s crazy. You can kill children using your car in this country and get out of prison in less time. Cry me a river, Sky Sports, but the harm caused by these men is barely a blip on your bottom line.

The vulnerabilities allegedly exploited in the article (in SS7) have nothing to do with encryption being backdoored. It’s a bit of a weird conclusion to make… Maybe they are saying that if the PSTN ran with strong encryption and authenticat
