The only car I’ve ever owned with a heated windscreen was a Ford Focus. It worked a treat and was still really useful even after some of the conductors corroded and stopped working.

... assuming the cell voltage is the same ? A quick google suggests Na-S cells at high temperatures are ~2.1V nominal (as opposed to 3.2V for LFP), but I lack the physics chops to parse the paper in the article to validate this. Anyway thi

This is exactly why we need to keep plugging away at fusion - one day we’ll need it in space. It doesn’t have to be cheap, it just has to work.

Parts of HS2 (the northern bits) won’t ever be built. From where I’m sitting in York, it already looks like a failure.

I spent three hours refilling each of the CMYK cartridges in my HP color laser the other night. First you use a copper ring to melt a little hole in exactly the right spot, then scalpel open the bag inside, carefully pour and shake the tone

Aren’t gov.uk domains transferred internally within UK government depts at zero cost ? I guess there’s got to be some incentive for teams to not register hundreds of subdomains, but if they are turning to 3rd party TLDs to host government a

I think that would be breach of a civil contract, not the crime of fraud, at least here in the UK.

You make a good point, that there are a couple of decent, innovative retail energy providers. My own opinion of the sector has been tarnished by repeated bankruptcies and constant haranguing to get a sodding smart meter installed.

This assumes a level of competence and conviction to lower energy consumption and bills that is definitely absent from any of the UK’s retail energy suppliers today.

Basically none of us hackers out there saving 10-20% on this and that is going to make a difference whatsoever. It might make us feel good I guess. What would help is higher regulatory energy standards and better enforcement. I’d settle fo

Almost all permanent employment contracts for professional positions in the UK have a “mutuality of obligation” clause which forbids the employee from working for another company at the same time. Contractors usually don’t have this, which

I don’t disagree, but their contracts, in my experience, specify a specific amount of time that will be delivered to each engagement that is up front about it not being “full time”. e.g I worked with a non-exec board member who gave us 5 da
