All video URLs I have tried (over 50) report a 500 with a screen like this: http://oi40.tinypic.com/2ni6y4g.jpg Curious. Am using chrome on Mac OS X. But working in Safari and Firefox. Any idea what all that means?

The default Adobe DRM implementation requires that you need an Adobe ID (i.e. an account with Adobe) to access the book. (DRM licences are against Adobe accounts) The bigger players who use Adobe DRM (Like B&N) of course don't want this

Having had to get my hands dirty in the murky world of Adobe DRM, I am pretty sure this is actually an implementation problem with how Barnes & Noble have implemented it. As crazy as it may seem, I believe in the B&N case the DRM li

Nope, all REST calls now require authentication: https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1.1/overview#Authentication... (and search is now formally part of the REST API as of v1.1)

I've thought about that sort of approach. Can you describe in a bit more detail how you do that, especially how you ensure it is secure?

http://geosay.com Just a side project, that I thought some people would find useful. Judging by the stats, no one finds it useful (or not enough to come back) Still, it's served as a decent tech demo to demonstrate what I can do.

But a lot of those shiny toys are probably going to be barriers to upgrading to a later rails version. "Be careful about adding gems, especially those with dependencies" and "Wooo - shiny toys" - are somewhat contradictory.

Testflight doesn't really work like that - for any app not approved by Apple, you can only open it with your device if the UDID is registered in the build as a tester device. What testflight does is take your device's UDID (when you registe

I am not sure installing a full stack web framework, a version control system, and automated deployment to public hosting should be _that_ easy. Learning how to install it all is very informative as to what is going on. e.g. Deploying to He

Yes, I agree. You make the point a lot better here than in your linked post - i.e. with PHP, you can 'just start'. With Ruby you need to choose a framework, understand enough about how it works, and where things go before you can even start

The vast majority of projects are underestimated; that's a truism of software development. If the outsourced developer was good in all other respects, I don't see any evidence to suggest it took twice as long because he was outsourced.
