I'm not saying App.Net is going to reach critical mass but your argument is pretty much the same thing people said about Twitter back in 2007.

The reason is because people are waiting for the IPhone 5S. (I know the figures may not be accurate so this is just for laughs.)

Actually, I think the quality of your stream will improve. People value things more if they pay for it. In this case, you pay for being a part of a community. It is expected that people will try to keep/improve the quality of the community.

If you want to interact with the community, it's an issue. Post something on Twitter mentioning "IPad", you'll get a lot of spam accounts replying. It's hard to engage with other users if you have to comb through the spam.

If you are non-coder/technical and use soem analytics software (e.g. Google Analytics), this is for you. Normally, you grab the tracking codes from Google Analytics and hand that to the developer/webmaster to include in the site. With this,

"I doubt a proof-of-concept by Google ..." You know they actually have a physical car? That car was able to drive itself from Mountain View to Tahoe. As of August 2012, it has logged 300,000 miles. http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/arc

The new Google Map pricing affected the Top 0.35% of its API users. What kind of site do you have?

I remember tech pundits years ago saying that Android needs a killer app. I guess Android finally has one. It's Google Maps.

Well, not every IPhone user upgraded the past week or so. Some people might think twice about upgrading to the IPhone 5 based on the complaints on the Maps app. While there are people who are loyal Apple fans, there are some that are on the

Since the past year, I have heard of several "acquihires" that didn't involve money at all. The acquiring company shows power by claiming they acquired a startup while the other can claim they built a startup that got acquired.

Twitter didn't have an official mobile client for a while. It was the 3rd-party developers that brought Twitter to mobile. Twitter's web app stagnated until recently. Apps like Tweetdeck filled the gap.

To expand on simondlr's point, Twitter will optimize the site for maximum exposure of ads, not user's status updates. The highest paying ads will surface to the top over the highest quality status updates.

Recent decisions made by Twitter are all about optimizing the site for advertising revenues. I don't think Twitter has any other choice because they chose the free path from the start. I highly doubt Twitter would suddenly switch to a premi

Some feedback: When I'm signing in/up on a site that uses DailyCred, it should clearly say that it is using DailyCred. I'm assuming that if I have an account with DailyCred, I can use the same account with other sites that use DailyCred.

People pay for Angie's List ($46 a year). If the early members of App.net built a great community and become a good resource, regular people would pay for it.

I'm highly skeptical if a freemium model would work. If App.Net does that, they have to optimize the site for both ad-based and subscription revenue models.
