Read the other comments. You'll see why I wrote the post... other people are dealing with the same problems and questions that I dealt with, and reading about other people who have figured it out is reassuring.

Yes, you are right that I thought a startup job in San Francisco would be ideal. However, I have zero issues with San Francisco as a city and lifestyle (other than cost of living, which I dealt with fine). The decision to leave is mostly ba

Fantastic advice. I think you are definitely correct. Luckily I am design/product who can code (a bit), plus the added business and sales ability.

Product designer is what I should be doing, and will be doing from here on. In my definition of product design, the ideal skill-set is a UI designer who works mostly in front-end code.

Exactly. That's another reason I felt the urge to leave, particularly if I was going to start a business. I didn't want to be influenced by the bad habits of the Valley and SF. It seemed unnecessary to touch on that in this particular blog

This is exactly why I wrote the post. It was 100% a personal decision, but I hope that other people might relate and find a little courage if they are feeling the same way. Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it.

This is a common habit for PG. I've seen him speak in person 2-3 times and watched a handful of videos of him, and each time I noticed the amount that he said "um". Obviously the content is valuable and worth listening to, but it is naive t

This is just a weekend project that I built. I work at Twilio, and this comes in handy for little SMS apps I need to build for work all the time. I have a lot of ideas of where I want to take this, and a bunch of layout/copywriting changes

It's not a startup, but there is a fantastic monthly meetup in Chicago for people who like to build stuff for the web (mainly developers/designers). Basically, a lot of awesome people go to a bar, hang out, and talk about things that we all

There used to be a HN meetup, but it stopped happening after a few months. A friend and I started Chicago.concat() which has been going strong for a few months and has a great group of people that show up every month. I have since moved to

It is very difficult to get repeating 2-digit short codes anymore. There aren't many left, especially at 5-digits long (instead of the other option, 6 digits). It'll be a huge asset to Cuphon to have that short code.

you shouldn't feel like you need to hide it because e.g. you think it would seem unprofessional. I love this, and thank you for stating it. Too rare do people act genuine and authentic in nature.
