Stubbornness is the killer. The young just don’t have anything to be stubborn about, but for a manager one greybeard who knows how to cause problems by digging their heels in will make your life hell. The fact that they are probably right j

Why are the ethics committees allowed to make any decisions? When I was on one I would by default let everything through unless I came across something where I thought I could help improve the experimental design. My colleagues on the other

If I knew this I wouldn’t be posting in HN :) China is the obvious answer, but I have this feeling that some sort of synthetic currency (not bitcoin) will be created to fill the void.

Massive upheaval yes, revolution no. I would say there is a reasonable chance that the USA dollar will lose reserve currency status in the next 10 years. When/if this happens then everything will change - for an historical parallel loo

This kind of missed my point. I know this is not something we are supposed to talk about, but I miss the old HN. The sad thing is these days I get more value reading the new post raw feed than the conversations on the front page.

It is sad that you felt you had to use a throwaway account to post this totally reasonable opinion.

You do realise that there can be multiple purposes for an action? The most pressing at the time the lock down was implemented was preventing the hospital system being overwhelmed, but there are others like allowing time for better treatment

I am not the best person to comment on this as I have been married for 20 years and so have never had to live through the whole modern dating scene, but I think the problem with your idea is that MB personality types are not equal distribut

Governments don’t impose lockdowns, they just make official what most of the population has already done.

Curious if you have any data that MB helps in long term relationships? I know it seems obvious, but I suspect certain MB types clash. I have often wondered if adding friction to the whole dating process is the solution to the problem. Slow

Actually wheat and barley did start out as marginal so it crops, but this is irrelevant to modern agriculture. The reason we can feed the almost 8 billion people on the planet is that we have selected for strains that respond to fertiliser

Yes and if we did this we would end up with a grain that requires as much fertiliser and agrochemicals as wheat or barley. Good thing kangaroos are adapted to low calories food and low water. Now all we need to do is make them a better food

Yes because we graze imported ruminants - I am suggesting we try and make our native animals a viable grazing option. Kangaroo is very tasty and low in fat. Selective breeding like we have done with cattle and sheep could make them commerci

Yes but they are not productive. The yield of grain is not commercially viable. It is much better to use these lands for grazing stock - in an ideal world native stock. I have my doubts as to the existence of indigenous agricultural - this

Grains are not able to be productive without huge inputs of fertilisers and agrochemicals. These marginal lands would be better off left as grazing country. One thing we could do is improve the meat conversion of kangaroos and wallabies. So

There are so many more interesting Australian native food plants that make more sense to concentrate on growing than native grasses. Not the most productive use of time and land.

It is possible that the strains in NY and surrounding are different than on the west coast. There is a very interesting hypothesis that the D614G mutation that is found in NY is more contagious than the strains found in CA for example.

This approach works well particularly well if the masses are decapitate by identifying anyone with high intelligence and “inviting” them into the 10% via education. Angry masses without a leader are not going to do anything.

Because it doesn’t work on iOS. Given the Australian market is 50% iOS this kind of defeats the purpose. We really should just dump the worthless app we have and just use the NHS version.

Isn’t the real problem that YouTube is basically a utility service, but one that makes a loss for the parent company. The discussion we should be making is not if YouTube should censor people, but if it should be turned into a regulated uti
