I dev on a Mac, and use .local and haven't had any problems like this. That said, my host isn't mapped to 127.0.0.1 - I have an Ubuntu VM running as a web & dev server

Cheers. I feel it's an important detail. edit : particularly because I'd love to try Rdio but can't, as I'm in Ireland :)

Rdio is US/Canada only though. Surely Spotify's larger region count is just as important in its survival and/or its dominance, no? The US is not the only market that matters.

Funnily enough, I've noticed a good few of my own non-techy friends have been pinging about a few privacy related topics, and how Facebook have been 'grabby' as you so eloquently put it :) I do have my own account, and certainly use it far

I've yet to see a positive comment regarding this new feature, but I'm wondering, has that anything to do with the type of site that HN is? There's been a lot of anti-Facebook chatter recently, most of which I agree with mind you, but given

This may seem like a stupid question, but how do I even do that? I'm a long time reader, but only recently started posting, so the finer details like flagging and downvoting are beyond me right now :)

I think the title of this submission is particularly bad, considering the content of the source post, but - I agree completely with it :) As a developer I too feel as though everything has already been done. I just cannot find any ideas tha

While I appreciate the detailed breakdown and analysis of the whole thing, I actually found the original image incredibly easy to understand. It took a few seconds to grok, likely because I'm using a phone to browse, but I recognised the so

Oh I don't doubt that I'll be able to start over somewhere else, but this event would be the first of its scale. Google own/hold more of my identity than any other online system/organisation ever has - something I'm sure is true for others

There have been quite a few stories here recently, bashing Google. Reading this, I'm actually concerned that a company that dominates so much of my online persona could end up being gutted as a result of some very expensive patent cases. Co

So let me get this straight, you created a twitter account with a wrong name at first, and after a while, you wanted to move to one that better matched your company/brand. Unfortunately for you, by this time someone else had already taken t

The 'race to the bottom' on pricing diesn't seem to have hit the Android market in the same way as the iOS app store, from what I've seen. I've not had any difficulty justifying paying more for an app/game, thanks mainly to the 15 minute re

I was really hoping to see some good comparison here, but all it manages to say is that node is great at handling concurrent requests, Apache/PHP is slower but just fine, and a single threaded server (in Python here) isn't suitable.

I'm wondering where you draw the line of what is considered moonlighting - do you mean absolutely any paid work whatsoever? What if it's nothing at all to do with their job? What if the tech guy wants to work in a dog pound for the day off,
