Perhaps I'm falling behind the times... I don't know, weren't iPad sales stagnant for years? [1] Peak iPad was from 2013-2015. It may be that (only) Apple believes that iPad is the future computing platform. [1] https:&#

How is that a Linux-centric vision? Linux distributions have always tightly coupled application updates to OS (distribution) updates. In fact, this was often a criticism of Linux and one of the motivators for a lean immutable system like Fe

I have used GNOME with HiDPI for two years on Wayland and it is great. Even Tk apps seem to support HiDPI these days. However, this is all assuming that 2x scaling is fine for you, support for fractional scaling is not great yet.

We are considering to move to PyTorch, we really dislike how the Tensorflow 1.x -> 2.0 transition is handled. For years a lot of stuff has been added to tf.contrib , some things were only in tf.contrib and now that it's dropped i

There are a lot of mom and pop shops, which just do what is their passion and they want their customers to be happy. Money is just a means to support themselves. E.g. I frequented a lot of local record shops and it was clear that their owne

Yes their recent trend of moving user privacy to the forefront is one of the few really positive trends i've seen out of apple in the past 2-3 years. Apple has moved privacy to the forefront for a much longer time. Apple was the firs

I think another issue is that on Apple's platforms the changes are quite abrupt, whereas most other platforms are gradual. E.g., if you wrote a Qt (the toolkit) application in 1996, you could have slowly transitioned your application t

Red Hat doesn't have developers to support Btrfs, and it takes a lot of support if you're going to depend on constant backporting of fixes and features. Given how many kernel developers and filesystem developers they have, it wo

I didn't have any problems on NixOS thus far. Of course, it doesn't use or need DKMS. Also, doing a root on ZFS install was as simple as installing root on brtfs.
