There's also a Linux driver provided by the company for this model. Are Linux drivers still a thing? Both our current and previous printers could be used without setting up any drivers through AirPrint. The new printer also scans wit

You are setting up a strawman [1]. I reacted to the grandparent who stated: Debian packaging has a nice feature too in that you can check the source used to build it, and any of the packages will be reproducible. Which is demonstrably fal

Do you have a threat/security model? Perhaps, the project is not aiming for world dominance. But if it is, it would be nice to have integration with a secure element to store secrets, application sandboxing (so that a chat client canno

You are ignoring the main point of the grandparent. Even excluding the possibility that an upstream is compromised. Who is going to check all the patches by hand in debian/patches ? If someone is going to insert vulnerabilities, they

Debian packaging has a nice feature too in that you can check the source used to build it, and any of the packages will be reproducible. So if you don't trust any of the Builds on the Mobian repository, you can actually check them all

And Apple has been (re)writing more and more applications and frameworks in a safe language (Swift) for years now. You just don't rewrite hundreds of millions of lines of code overnight.

they damn well better have a long-term plan to replace their bug-ridden kernel and other important low-level systems I think they are slowly going in that direction, e.g. by moving drivers to user space with DriverKit (which AFAIK unfortu

Also, it I think meming is a bit of a stretch. Of all the desktop operating systems (macOS, Linux, Windows), macOS has had the strongest security push. E.g. integration of the secure enclave throughout the system for protecting secrets, r

I'm really surprised popular numerical computing Python packages don't already have optimized hardware back-ends for things like NumPy I think it is hard to beat modern BLAS implementations for common operations. E.g. Apple Acce

This has gotten a bit better. Last time I checked, MKL now uses Zen-specific kernels for sgemm/dgemm. Unfortunately, these kernels are slower than the AVX2 kernels. But at least, it does not use the pre-modern SIMD kernels for AMD Zen

This is funny, but I prefer my computers silent. Semi-related: I can hear the inductors on my NVIDIA GPU, which is somewhat useful. When I am training deep learning models, the coil whine follows very regular patterns. Also, the pattern cha

The problem from what the grandparent post, is why legalize sales but not production? These are largely historical compromises. It doesn't change, because the conservative right-wing parties (e.g. CDA and VVD) generally want to compl
