To expand a bit on this for people not familiar with Nix: the dynamic linker is treated as any other dependency and therefore stored in the Nix store, using the derivation's hash as part of the store path. The binary's .interp sec

The problem isn't the rent. It may be an inconvenience for an indie developer, but to Microsoft, Apple, etc. the cost of a yearly developer account is peanuts. They are not doing it hoping to make excessive amounts of money. Even if Ap

This is why we need WASM and web-first development. This is only going to make things worse. If everything is a web application, why would users even need access to their hardware or be able to modify their operating system? Boot from an

MSDOS 6.0 might be interesting. Windows 3.1 too. And MS-DOS 4.0/4.1, not to be confused with 4.00/4.01, which had multi-tasking features: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS-DOS_4.0_(multitasking)

I have never programmed Lua, but it also seems to fit the bill fairly well. - Acceptable license? MIT - you need something that builds everywhere. It probably does? At least it compiles with Turbo C 1.0. - Modicum of security: probably. Lua

I am hoping that WSL/WSL2 makes Windows so attractive for developers, that Apple feels the pressure to either implement Linux syscall emulation or very lightweight VMs like WSL2. (I know that macOS has Hypervisor.framework)

I think this is false. Lithium-Ion batteries (in contrast to e.g. NiMH) do not have the memory effect [1]. It's actually charge/discharge cycles that reduce battery life for such batteries [2]. Older MacBooks were only rated for 3
