For Win 10 the Pro version allows disabling more telemetry than Home does and I pay extra to get computers that have Pro. I haven't yet researched Win 11 Home vs. Pro though and I will put off "upgrading" to Win 11 as long as

TL;DR: SDL will develop a cross-platform GPU API that is easier to use and Just Works. Vulkan is neither because it needs 1000 lines to draw a triangle on screen and is so low level that differences between AMD and nVidia GPUs are exposed.

You can go even farther than no smartphone and eliminate email, as Donald Knuth did on January 1, 1990, after using email since ~1975-1989. His reasons for wanting long hours of uninterrupted concentration may well align with yours: https:

One of the worst things about the freemium model is that the games tend to be very grindy time suckers those who don't pay-to-play. Millions of souls spend hours each day just farming in-game treasure and it actually ends up being wor

Hydrogen Embrittlement[1] is not discussed in the link, an effect where hydrogen diffuses into metals and causes them to become brittle and crack. Many aerospace materials are especially vulnerable: high strength steels, nickel and titanium

This freedom to use old versions sounds good. But of Minecraft's 100M+ users, what percentage know this? What percentage just automatically update to the newest version and don't explore the mod scene? I just read that Mojang adde

This describes the current state of Minecraft, but Microsoft can tie new releases to new restrictions. The unknowing masses will adopt the new version without understanding the loss of freedom. Look at the success MS, Adobe, etc., have had

Does Minecraft go down for several days like Roblox does? Does Minecraft ban/cancel people like PewDiePie as Roblox did? Aren't monthly active users (MAU) around 100M for each? I think Roblox is eventually doomed to slowly fizzle

Text is mightier than the Metaverse. Kids can do video calls with their smartphones but prefer texting. We could discuss Hacker News stories with video chat but we prefer text. News and politics junkies prefer reading text tweets on Twitter
