Not sure about this. You can damage most devices by hitting them with a hammer or pouring coffee on them. That's about $50 cheaper to do.

Thanks for sharing! I spent one day this autumn getting the open source toolchain working and dimming the onboard led on an upduino. Turns out testing on hardware when you don't know what you're doing is cumbersome (surprising!).

The existence of the device is important in itself. If it was possible to make a device like USB Killer, nobody would care. But now that you can order one online for cheap, it must be taken into account. But yes, it's mostly for malici

I noticed the same system in the Google Cloud python samples repository. It's actually quite useful to have the full code available and to easily see which parts are displayed in docs. Feature request, though: include a url in the sour

The reason to use a salt is mostly that an attacker doesn't then have a precomputed library of hash values. Say, if someone uses the password 'gwpmkq' and a site uses plain MD5, they store cc733aac12981561dfc4944dd34a595f in

1. Don't start spending. 2. Get a part-time normal job, at least until you figure out a meaningful way to spend your time. 3. Help people who have nothing and face a crisis. $1k could completely change someone's life or it could g

This brings memories. I wrote a planetary simulation in Java/Swing as a programming course project in 2008, back when I didn't know much about programming. That application also had sliders for control, RK4 etc. I started programm

> affordable for students and RF enthusiasts Takes a lot of scrolling to see the price, which is $480. That's probably affordable considering the specs. But the cheap way to experiment with an SDR is to repurpose a $20 USB TV tuner.

I don't think that's naive. A browser plugin is another component that you have to trust. But maybe you haven't considered all threats. I use the Chrome password store. Copying passwords over clipboard seems quite unsafe to m

People don't seem to understand how dangerous browser add-ons are. Protecting people from eg. malicious add-ons emptying their bank accounts is probably one of the reasons for restricting add-ons. However, restricting add-on installati

Thanks for sharing your experience. I read another comment about Nim being nice on microcontrollers because it compiles/transpiles to C, and my first thought was ESP32. I've written Rust for STM32 and MSP430 and it's awesome.

Do you have data to back that up, or are you speaking from personal experience? I know how it can go wrong, but SPAs can become a mess too. I had one project where we built a very beautiful, modern site that had about 50 lines of js in tota

Of course, but time is limited and there's a huge number of things to learn. So my point about a customer paying the cost of learning SSR may be moot, but someone has to pay it. I also assume the ease of implementing SSR is highly depe

The days of work needed to set up server-side rendering? I realize I must look stupid saying this, because when you know your tech stack inside out the setup might be 15 minutes instead of days. But a large proportion of developers only lea

The earpiece and speaker distort the sound so much it doesn't really matter what DAC you drive them through. ARM microcontrollers tend to have built-in DACs that are probably good enough for that kind of use. But when you have your hig

I somewhat disagree. Yes, if the GUI has five possible actions and you're only familiar with one of them, it's much easier to learn to do the other four things with the GUI. But it's tedious to do something the GUI wasn'

That is true and a good point. But when you think about it, with a large enough budget you could create hardware backdoors in microprocessors in the manufacturing plant without the chip designer ever knowing about it. Then you're in a

I also love zgen and used to use some parts of OMZ with it. But after debugging weird issues a bunch of times and always finding a funny opinionated config in OMZ I changed everything to Prezto. Zgen supports Prezto natively. FWIW, here
