Good question, but I would ad hoc say no. In the case of a lottery people willingly gamble with some money they earned. In case of management salaries they just take a share of the money for which all the thousands of workers on the factory

Yes, there are reasons for differing salaries and they have important functions. But at some point those justifications stop to make sense and it is really just about exploiting your position to grab as much as you can for yourself.

Yes. If you work for 10 years and then just consume stuff for the rest of your life without lifting a finger, stuff for which other people work all day long to produce it while at the same time probably not enjoying a quality of life anywhe

Consuming without working for it is immoral, flying privat jets and traveling more is bad for the environment. Those are not reasons in favor of higher salaries.

Imagine a tiny economy with two people. There is one guy that produces everything humans need and he can produce one day worth of supplies in four hours. But to keep his business running he depends on a piece of software that the other guy

If the market works as intended, someone will replicate your app and sell it cheaper, the price should eventually converge to the costs. And you might not agree, but I find it morally questionable [1] to run a business that pays good money

Tangent. I understand the appeal of a four hour work week but how can people take that seriously? You will either have to have a pretty unappealing standard of living or you will have to exploit other people. If you only work four hours per

I can imagine two ways. First, on the very bottom, if you place the mug into a puddle of coffee, then no coffee will wet the bottom of the mug. Second, around the side, when coffee runs down the side of the mug, a hydrophobic coating might

Then why not pour water down the mine shaft and pump it back out? That seems a lot less complicated than transporting any kind of solid material up and down. I can think of three possible reasons - material density, loses in pumps and pipes

I understand that but the statement 70 TWh is enough storage capacity to satisfy the world electricity demand makes no sense. Electricity demand is a power not an energy.

Also QUERTY vs QUERTZ keyboards, Y and Z are flipped so that A/Y makes no sense. That is a really common issue, for example also with programs that want to use the keyboard to play piano. Use scan codes instead of key codes. [1] [1] h

Which again is nonsense as stated. The average world energy consumption is about 3 TW and gravity storages produce exactly zero and can meet no demand at all. 70 TWh would be enough to store about one day of global electricity consumption,

Same prices and same wage does not work, because your wage now only produces 80 % of the products compared to before. If someone is syphoning off 20 % of your labor for nothing, then I am all with you and this should be brought to an end, b

That is certainly a possibility but I have doubts. If you could gain 20+ % percent of productivity be making your employees work 20 % less, it would be stupid for any company to not do this. What seems more likely to me is that you can gain

I completely agree with you that we are living well beyond our means. And working less would be a way to lower our footprint, but that is probably not what most people have in mind when they consider a 4 day week. I also think it would not

What is the cost of raw materials? It is the labor that went into digging them out of the ground and refining them.

Let's look at this the other way, everyone gets a 20 % wage cut and we maintain current prices. On the one hand we would have additional demand for labor to do the 20 % of work, on the other hand we would have a 20 % drop in demand, so

Working 20 % less will cost you 20 % of your living standard, there is no way around that. There may be some jobs where people already effectively only work 4 days and sit around doing nothing for one more day, in those cases you could main

According to a quick search the average US household is closing in on 600 GB of traffic per month, that makes 42 PB per day the internet traffic of 2.1 million households. Incidentally the second picture in the article says 2.3M+ customers.

So what is the actual limit if any? I just had a quick look at ISO 32000-2:2020 [1] and think the answer is none or implementation depended if you want. In the file format a media box is a rectangle, a rectangle is an array of four numbers,

In general there is no real reason why a software running on Windows 3.11 could not contain 100 years of development time. What seems less likely is that the majority of that code would be highly hardware or system specific and would requir
