I didn't really get that impression that the author was seeking to do that, to be honest. I think he was interested in the context developing the codec and how that influences the media that can be produced/expressed.

I feel like GitHub made a lot of hacking around and software development a lot more seamless too. Before GitHub, the average state of software development seemed a bit more clunky to me.

Given the number of comfortably-masculine gay men I've known, I have a feeling the womb isn't necessarily trying to ensure it eventually creates a Disney Princess. It feels a bit far-fetched, to be honest.

I feel like the culture seems to be the big variable there than the preferences, to be honest. Or, people are going to express what they like based on their environment and how they perceive it will respond.

I don’t think anything feature-wise is missing on the runtime side, but Flash’s keyframe/editor setup just let people make the most amazing things.

I write C++ for a living, and one thing I've kind of noticed a similar thing to what you've mentioned. "very generic" template code often is best left to a name such as T, but a very specialized piece of metaprogramming

Neither have to be that big. If something's going to be so big and pervasive into people's lives though, then I'd rather be able to have a democratic say in a government than the Shinra Electric Power Company.

Yeah, I feel like they should have looked how Microsoft more or less lucked out with Bungie producing a killer app for them. [1] Successfully creating a game service requires content, content, and more content. That said, there's still

I think a lot about Treasure, a quirky game developer that tended to make a bunch of strange games in the past. I think their studio director and founder, Masato Maegawa, understood the value in being more hands-off in a leadership role. [1

Interesting then how Romero/Carmack got so much of their start making Apple II shareware games before transitioning to DOS. The hardware really seems to have helped that enable that initial environment for them to grow.

My day job uses clang-format for a larger C++ codebase. Our tech leads were for it to "automate" discussions on code style. Before it was integrated, it wasn't uncommon to have code style be a larger part of a code review.
