It's probably worth pointing out that what you can hear there is dither noise. Quantization noise sounds far worse.

Seeing as there have been a couple of SR-71 stories on Hacker News right now I thought I'd share my favourite: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/favorite-sr-71-story-107912...

Users shouldn't have to care about this. If the browser can render the page it should. This does raise the point that perhaps browsers should have a development mode that does raise errors though.

What if you have no choice but to rely on those services? The person coding the site isn't always the decision maker.

> If the browser misinterprets, you have a hard time finding out what went wrong. This is what HTML validators are for. Browsers should do their best to interpret the page authors intention and actually display a page. The developer do

You can get DOOM for iOS. Plays particularly well on an iPad.

I'm afraid you're mistaken. RiscOS certainly had scalable vector fonts (anti-aliased too!), but the icons and interface elements were all bitmaps and the OS was not resolution independent.

I expect there will be scaled modes like there are with the Retina MacBook Pro's. So you'll be able to use a desktop that's effectively 2560x1440 pixels like the 27" Cinema display. It's going to be pretty heavy on

Vox is nice but completely useless to me until it gets gapless playback.

1pt = 1/72 of an inch, therefore a 12pt font is 12 pixels high on a Mac, but 16 pixels high on a PC (12 * 96/72).

Just maxing it to 8GB will make a vast difference. You don't have to buy RAM from Apple. http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=5A1D576...

How much RAM do you have? OS X is quite memory hungry and is terrible when it has to page. I'd recommend maxing out the RAM if you haven't already. I'm guessing you have a regular hard drive too. An SSD will make it feel like

Um, how is it an interoperability fiasco? If I message someone who doesn't have iMessage it just falls back to SMS.

I struggle to take anybody seriously when they refer to companies by their stock market codes. Also, it's AAPL.

Macs generally hold their value very well, plus you get 12+ hour battery life. You should be able to run Linux on it too if you really don't get on with OS X, although you will likely sacrifice some of that battery life.

I expect this is a compromise to ensure that older, non scaling-aware apps don't break in layout.

I browse websites often from my phone even when I've got a laptop 6 feet away from me. Usually when I'm on the sofa flicking through twitter or email etc... It really doesn't take much to at least make sure your website is ac

As somebody that owns (and has upgraded) a 2011 Unibody MBP and has recently upgraded a friends 2006 MBP I have to disagree and say that the unibody design is vastly better.

It's probably battery life. The Retina iPad has a battery that's nearly twice as big as the iPad 2 and iPad mini and it's mostly to drive that screen. I believe that the power requirements are down to the number of pixels more than the size
