Duopolized. The rest of the argument still holds, and a weaker form of it holds for Google as well, since stores like F-Droid can't do everything that Google Play can. Please steelman the arguments you disagree with.

If the developer was worth over a trillion dollars, or if the app was used by 20% or more of the global population, absolutely.

The current level of "regulation" in iOS is very bad for society, so of course I want it to not be "special" any more. When you have the level of power that Apple does in society, different rules apply.

Wow, this site has completely given into the cult of Apple. Thankfully the judge is a reasonable person who is interested in actual harms more than the letter of a TOS.

Forget percentages, even the raw numbers show a mismatch between official and Telegram results.

Correct. The VP is also the person who wrote the "Ugly" memo that was leaked: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/growth-at-any-c... Hardly a surprise.

This is not true. Managers are considered to be agents of a corporation and are held to different standards than other employees. (This is also true for SWEs, where SWE manager is fundamentally different from IC.)

What you're saying is that critical thinking is required to determine morality. That is indeed true. To oppose a wealth tax on majoritarian grounds you need to demonstrate that the wealthy are oppressed in some way. Simply saying "

Indeed, meta-level reasoning is insufficient to determine morality. The object-level facts matter most.

Majoritarianism is bad because it can oppress powerless minorities. The wealthy are not a powerless minority.

The decisions should be transparent and subject to review and appeal by an independent board. Zoom should be free to appeal Apple's decision to the board, yes. Checks and balances are not a new concept.

Is it truly a surprise why I keep being downvoted for pointing out abuses of power by Hacker News's favorite megacorp?

Yes, Apple should very obviously not have a completely unchecked right to disable arbitrary software from running on millions of computers for whatever reason they want. This is so obviously an abuse of power that I can't believe I h

That is the only correct state of affairs for corporations (and governments) as big and powerful as Apple. Constant criticism no matter what they do. It's the only way to hold them even remotely accountable.

Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom, as Kierkegaard said. But freedom is an incredibly worthwhile thing, so much so that anxiety is the cost society should for it. The costs of Apple's walled garden have become so obscene at this point

The way I think about it is the engineers Mozilla hires could almost all get cushy jobs at a FAANG, but it pays tier 2-3 salaries. Mozilla doesn't just build CRUD apps. The problems its engineers have to solve are really hard ones, oft

For the quality of people that work at Mozilla, going rate for a senior dev is more like 350-400k in the SF Bay area. Mozilla pays well below 90% of going rate.

Epic Games Store charges 12%, not 30%. This would probably not be nearly as big a concern if Apple charged 12%. There are many people in this world who think they would pay a steep social penalty if they switched away from iPhones. Now part
