MySQL replication is pretty broken too. It was one of the biggest problem ares while I worked their, tons of customer issues with it, slaves constantly getting out of sync with masters. I think it's fundamentally because the lack of ACID ma

I was rejected with CouchDB a couple of years ago. I was bad at presenting it, and it was probably the wrong time anyway.

It's about fast scale-out. If you are getting that kind of sustained traffic, then you can likely pay for the conventional hosting. The problem is what happens when you have normal trafic but get spikes? The NY Times links to your startup o

Unfortunately, it's not guaranteed to return, ever. It's a psuedo-random generator, it can (though not real likely) get stuck in a cycle of buckets it checking, the worst case time complexity O(∞). Even if it uses a real random generator, I

I had no idea what your site or product page did until I found this link, then it instantly made sense. http://www.s3mer.com/tour.php I suggest you change your homepage to be a lot more like the tour page.

The real devil in compilers is the optimization. It's one thing to take some code and expand it out correctly to lower level code, it's quite another to transform it into compact, efficient AND correct low level code. And often there are no

I see, but if it's a timer problem then with libevent you can roll your own timer queue optimized for your workload. The libevent core is small and well designed (but not well documented), integrating custom timer mechanisms is actually pre

This article seems a bit over the top. I implemented the MySQL interface to libevent for mysql 6.0, and we got really good performance numbers vs. thread per connection: http://krow.livejournal.com/572937.html I've spent a fair amount of

The best way to learn any language is to build stuff. Build something you think is cool. Allow yourself to suck at it and do everything wrong. Then build it again, or build something else cool.

If you halted R&D, your customers would flock to competitors who are still developing their product lines. It would be more like 5 years before it's effectively dead.

I think the point is there are no harmful metrics to collect, but there are useless ones. However you don't know which ones are useless until you've collected them for while, so just collect them now and worry about their utility later.

The XBox still has not made a profit. MS has turned the corner where they aren't still losing money on every unit, but it looks unlikely they'll ever recover their losses on this generation console (the last generation was a money loser too
