If you have a number base n, shift right/left k digits means, respectively, "divide/multiply by n^k". That's the same whether it's decimal (n=10) or binary (n=2).

Although I'm familiar with your point, I literally just searched for the term you mentioned, navigated all the way to page 6 and every single result was specifically for Reservoir Cats proper, none of them even mentioned Reservoir Dogs

Not trying to sound too negative but if you've already choosen that title before writing the piece, I'm not sure you're really writing about science.

I reacted the same way when I read that part too, but the rest of the comment illustrates it well with the failed attempts data. To go back to the analogy, it's as if they try to jump from the window, but there's a safety net that

All I see is a white egg and a blue egg. Jokes aside, it must feel surreal to see it in person, a "photoshopped out" piece of reality of you will.

Is it fair to say that the expressed concerns are only your own? As I see it, people with genuine desire to learn don't see details such as "number of dependencies" or "linters" as impediments to anything at all.

I concluded a while ago that there's an uncrossable chasm between the people who understand/agree with your first paragraph and those who don't. Any argument beyond that is just people talking past each other.
