Sorry fsync_always is a redis setting, not memcached. The fsync is to a real disk. The parent poster's comment about redis being crash safe to 1s is just the default.

With fsync_always it's crash safe for all but the most pathological scenarios.

My experience has been that the hospital sets up the monthly payment amount (sometimes with varying plan options). You can't partially pay, and the payment amount is a simple ($total / plan term). Paying $1 isn't really an op

Sure, fuse actually implements the lesser known CUSE protocol as well. Stands for character device in user space, and does exactly what you describe.

On Openbsd you have sosplice, which can be used much like sendfile.

This has been around for a while. I used it as my primary driver several years ago, back when its main feature was that it had 64-bit support. After Firefox implemented a 64-bit build, I sort of just assumed waterfox would die off. Neat to

Like with all languages the implementer matters. There's a remarkable amount of variance that I've encountered in the tersiness of both Go and Java code. For example, Go's err != nil pattern is often cited as being ugly, but

There's research being done with piezo-electrics to achieve this. Pretty neat stuff.

Every team I've been on has had it's majority of engineers doing exactly that. Honestly, many are happy in that role. Usually theres a handful of people that tend wiggle their way into more backend, architectural things (libraries

A simple improvement would be to use the average life expectancy given a certain age. This can be calculated with the age specific death rates for a population: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_table

I'm a huge fan of Pass. ( https://www.passwordstore.org/ ). It's command line based but there are adaptations for various platforms. It works best in a UNIX-like environment, though.

Absolutely. It's the only OS where I can be certain that I know where everything is and how everything works. It has few deviations from the Unix architecture and the ports repository enforces adherence to the filesystem layout. I don&

I wonder if the author has similar views about C, which doesn't have many of the problems that he's talking about. Furthermore, many of his arguments seem to be statements about all high level languages.

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is age & school status. From 18-23 I worked part time and never had to pay taxes. I was part of that group who zeroed out, and now I contribute $20,000 per year (proudly, I might add). Am I

Yeah. My first reaction was "Oh god", but after reading through the source, it's actually a really great usage of literate coffeescript.

Of particular note: This release brings 64 bit support to the Linux compatibility layer. I suppose when windows caught up Bash on Windows, FreeBSD needed to do something to keep one step ahead =].

I've found it to be just as easy to get going with as Laravel. The documentation is good.

Sure, fees are under 5%, but what about that one month that you didn't pay off your bill in full? Enjoy that ~30% interest rate on your account balance.

Nice writeup. I'd like to see some examples illustrating appropriate usage of Clone-on-Write with Rust strings - that's something I personally have struggled with while learning rust.

I'd just like something better than _Generic and (void *) as our only ways to do generics. That's my one feature. Too bad that's not likely to happen, ever.
