I have really started considering JavaScript with KitKat as WebView uses Chromium engine in KitKat. It is even better that Moto G (200$ device without contract) has KitKat already.

Map-reduce style scalability. SQL databases are not good for that but can be used for that as well. However then your DB will be not normalized most probably. But again different NoSQL DBs have different purpose.

Maybe. My experience (not Qt based) with Javascript on iOS is not very bad (I expected worse). While I don't like that Apple created fake problems using script languages in iOS.

You can keep it minimal if you want to. In some situations you can avoid javascript completely (e.g. QML based framework covers all details for you).

Since I have some experience with QML (Symbian, Meego, Ubuntu Touch and BlackBerry 10) I will try to answer this question as simple as possible: There is wet developer dream to write software that can be written once and used everywhere. In

Actually QML apps can be written only using QML + Javascript. Performance or platform dependent parts can be written in C++. Some Qt based frameworks experience. Ubuntu Touch chose to develop apps using Javascript only where possible. Black

It is not like you can release new phone with different OS in a month. As well it is not like Nokia is single solid company. There are speculations that Nokia was killed by giving too much independence to different parts of company.

Maybe. I don't know how huge that project is. Maybe technologies that have been chosen are the best for the tasks at hand. Maybe some of those technologies are only minor part, not in critical area, maybe it is some technology research

It does not look that bad actually. Your list lacks Oracle, Microsoft technologies to really complain about inefficient usage of public money. I would love if my country used open source more.

Snowman is in table because of weather (like ☂ and some other symbols). I would like to understand what cats and dogs are doing in unicode: 😾 😸 🐶 (I kind of like that Mac OS X is using images for these)

You can always use online tools to compare size: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Nokia-515_id8116/size#/phon...

Let's define what's scientific, which parts of that writing can be considered scientific by that definition and return in 50 years here. Really. I can add that to my TODO list :) Chances that I will be still alive are not very hig

Yes, it is stupid, ignorant and unscientific, but not hateful. It might be used by people with hateful intentions however. "Argument from authority" is logical fallacy but a lot of people are still tricked by it.

Just checking if I got it right: Google with Android is successfully using Microsoft strategy. In that case Firefox OS is in the best position to compete against Android. FxOS phones can be very cheap as well. But is that enough to make it

Nokia 515 is waiting for you. Really. Check out it. Still there is nothing exceptional about this hardware IMHO.

I have different question. Technically no vendor can offer something exceptionally different from hardware point of view. Bazillion megapixels, bazillion megaherz, bazillion cores and etc. - nobody cares about that. It takes decent pictures

IMHO that's list what you can't do "with the browser" not "on the browser". If browser is somehow exposed to interfaces of peripherals/devices/etc there is no reason why you can't do that "o

Technologically, yes, it works, but not always correctly. Users don't like it. That's like public transportation with Ferrari seats claiming Ferrari experience.
