Some great comments from everyone here. Glad to see an intellectual and factual discussion on HN vs. the usual flaming someone or something! We need more VC's like Mike Markkula today, no doubt.

Great little read. Uniquely portrays the cultural differences between the two schools but more importantly, shows just how different the West vs. East Coast mentality is when it comes to technology startups, products, innovations, etc. Not

I completely agree with you - twisted pair has go to go and fiber needs to terminate in the home. It's actually a embarrassing that this country can neither build a somewhat simple healthcare website and has some of the slowest access

Right on. And it will 100% go over budget given the amount of work needed, ancient infrastructure, non-compliant landlords and the "I just don't give a shit to change" LA attitude. I remember two years ago when I was the CTO

Great in theory, but I just don't see this happening with the telcos (AT&T and TWC) controlling the entire broadband footprint in SoCal. It's called collusion, look it up. These two telcos (the worst in the world most likely)

Yes, yes they do. But like you said, that's fine. Props to the SnapChat guys for cashing out, raising a ton of venture from sheep VCs and getting millions of users? YES, absolutely. Props to the SnapChat guys for creating something of

Totally. It's how the wind blows these days in "tech". It's reminiscent of a bubble with all of these mobile apps calling themselves "companies" when most aren't even profitable. It reminds of the early 20

I agree with you that having customers on a waiting list or a pre-order list is a great move with regards to pre-money traction, but there are certainly companies out there with proprietary technologies that require funding before they can

Traction doesn't apply to a hardware startup. Quite simply, it's impossible to get any sort of "traction" when you don't have the cash required to commercialize hardware and release it to customers. Not to mention t
