10 hours/day would leave me K.O for the rest of the day. What's the point? It's probably not even healthy.

Exactly. Around 75% of the people I know (teenagers, youngsters, adults) from a variety of backgrounds (tech, health, no education, etc) don't have a Twitter account nor check Twitter.

Interesting. How did you come up with the ~45h/week thing? Why not ~40h/week or even ~35h/week?

I've had exactly the opposite experience. What does your comment and mine tell us? Absolutely nothing.

We should stop taking FAANG-like companies as examples of everything: - they do not represent the majority of tech companies - the majority of devs out there do not work for them/won't work for them - their techniques/process

Hiring. Companies hire, hire and hire like there's no tomorrow. There's zero incentive in becoming a stable business without keep growing every year. No. Instead companies want to get bigger, to hire more and to add features to a

Hiring for the sake of hiring. I cannot understand why companies think that growing implies hiring more people.

How can you compare a PHP framework like Laravel (that sits on top of a language) with a framework (Next) that sits on top of a library (React) that sits on top of a language (JS)? Next is not like Laravel.

It's impossible to be an expert in everything, but it's very doable to be competent in many areas. I just don't see the problem in being quite decent, for example, at Vue.js and Kafka and Postgres. Let's say you have been

I have worked in the past with AngularJS and Vue. The work I produced was similar in quality to the work produced by pure "front end" engineers. I am a generalist, and I haven't seen yet any "front end" engineer doi

I don't call myself a "full stack" engineer. I call myself a software engineer (or software developer); this pretty much means: I am a problem solver. Do I have to design a relational data model? Sure, there I go. Do I have t

I think I've expressed myself wrongly. I'm not a contractor, just a normal fulltime employee. This normally means (at least in Europe) 8h/day 5 times per week, hence 40h/week. I'm not being payed by the hour.

This must be an American thing. In Europe it's pretty rare to find tech companies that do whiteboard questions and/or leetcode. The usual standard is one meeting with HR and the head of engineering (and/or a senior engineer)

This is not exactly correct but almost. I Europe expect around 40% percent of your gross salary to be gone in taxes. Health insurance is not 100% free (e.g., you go to the doctor and he prescribes you some pills. You have to pay for those p

That offer (75K) is definitely not the norm for a new grad. It can happen, sure, but I think it's more productive to discuss salaries 90% of the software engineers in this forum can get/expect.

A good rule of thumb (although it's difficult to summarize the salaries of all the countries in Europe) is: Juniors up to 30K. Mediors up to 50K. Seniors up to 80K. This is for software engineers.
