Is it just me or whenever I open a link with a text fragment, the page is loaded just fine but it takes one or two seconds to actually scroll down to the highlighted text? Usually in Chrome and when visiting sites that are not 100% pure tex

A bit off-topic but I couldn't overlook that Chicago reminds me of Munich (in terms of daylight). I have lived in Spain (Santiago de Compostela) and I absolutely loved that in the summer time the sun sets around 10pm. Even in winter ti

For me learning is fun. If I add any rule or framework or whatever on top of “just reading and practicing” then all of a sudden, learning is not fun anymore. So, I keep it simple at the expense of doing my learning not the most productive w

I once worked for a company that required from each engineer in the team to do what they called “firefighting” during working hours (so not exactly on-call). So for one week, I was triaging bug tickets and trying to resolve them. These bugs

I use iCloud’s Hide my Email feature. So I have dozen email addresses and I receive email in the same inbox. I don’t care how my email addresses are used. The moment I see too much spam, I remove the email address.

Same feeling. It’s rather painful to read Kotlin code because of so many features that imho are not really that needed… and every developer wants to use them all.

Wouldn't surprise me if in a few years Google, for certain keywords: - autogenerates URLs (tha look legit) - autogenerates content for such URLs (that look kinda legit) All of this would be possible if one is using Chrome (otherwise th

Let’s assume that. Now, if a company can use AI to churn out code without developers, the question is then: who’s going to ask the AI what kind of code to write? Would that job be now taken by old software developers? Or would someone else

It all feels like theatre. Been working in many companies in “war mode” and they all think that in order to become profitable (none of them were) you need to push the most “important” features out of the door asap, otherwise your competitor

Middle management (eng. managers) is by far the worst role in software engineering. I either want to keep working and make my way through the IC ladder or jump directly from senior/staff engineer to be a manager of managers.

In that case, wouldn’t it make sense to use an English name and a fake profile picture of a white male? These 2 things are one click away. If I were trying to spread malware, I wouldn’t use a chinese name!

I used to use vagrant and virtual box on apple. With silicone ones I switched to vmware, but the dev experience is far from good. Qemu is what works best. Multipass is a nice wrapper around qemu.

The problem with vagrant in apple silicone is VMware: it’s not 100% stable. Multipass is way more stable and it works out of the box.

Exactly. I do side projects because they are fun. No pressure, no expectations. Simply and pure knowledge gaining and programming… which I love. I already have a boss asking me 9-5 when I will finish project X, so I don’t need that pressure
