When I was a Junior Developer I though I was a genius and knew everything about programming itself, I was not even interested in improving my coding skills, because I thought they were perfect, now after 8+ years I view myself as a rather i

In general, JavaScript wouldn't take less time to develop and especially less time to fix than a modern C++ 11 / boost code. That's a stupid myth ("very slow C++ development times") from the guys who suck at programming.

1) There is the C++ language. Will you ever remember it? Stop comparing everything to C — it is an oversimplified outdated language with specific uses for low-level system programming where you don't need complex data structures or high-lev

Indeed, C++ does neither have a comprehensible established paradigm of coding style, nor a consistent coding culture, as e.g. Java or C# do. It is very sensitive to the professional and personal qualities of a particular developer.

That's a good sign that the hackers community is not only concentrated on professional matters, they are not a bunch of narrow-minded nerds, but are enlightened people concerned with all sorts of problems a modern intellectual would be conc

I suspect that the article is fictional and is written by a 44-year old female writer.

Not in all countries, in fact, in most countries governments consist of goblins. I think there is a correlation between the national wealth and the percentage of normal people in the government.

So it is ok to post links to various media with no commentary? I will try that too.

Nobody still has managed to copy Apple's model of success. It's true, people won't steal your ideas if you really think different. They will look at the shining truth in front of them and be not able to grasp it in their mind, because they

It's simple. Java inventors/developers once said: this new language is entirely safe because it runs on a virtual machine and prohibits any insecure operations, maybe a bit slow, but now we will finally get rid of all the buffer overruns an

Well, Java in its very core idea is supposed to be safe in the first place, because of the restrictive programming model that leads also to problems in efficiency. And if the entire idea of abstraction and safety does not work, what's the p

Did not work for me at all. Just keeps showing the spinning search indicator. I suspect Google Blog Search is about 1e+6 times more elaborate, so hardly there are any perspectives. Kudos for doing something anyway.

Well, Java sucked, Apple blocked it. If you pretend your technology to be secure, but constantly fail in that aspect, you'd expect this kind of result.

That's no problem, actually, even if it is patented, because Judy Array is not a concise algorithm or a data structure, but instead a compilation of a number of well-known unpatented data structures and algorithms, so you can basically chan

It is generally a good idea, but I am not sure how efficient it would be, because scientists generally suck at programming, and wandering through a lamer's messy code is not that better than wandering through a poorly formulated scientific

Why is the comment greyed out only because some stupid jerks are not agree? What the hell? What if 99% of the clever people are agree? But clever people are still 5% of the human mass. This is a wrong ranking system, this is a dictatorship

Thanks for letting me know, I try to use the macros as little as possible, but there are such things as platform-specific code, compiler differences, third-party libraries, standard libraries such as WinAPI and legacy code.

Individually for a student it is pretty justified to use pirated educational books, because the students are clearly being ripped off. But just turning this into another anti-copyright campaign is not the right thing to do.

Maybe the problem is not copyrighting itself, but that the US education system is entirely a rip-off? The copyrighted books not touched by the educational hoax are pretty cheap.

This is not exactly the C language problem, but the design flaw of the C standard library. Also, there are folks out there that still use unprotected buffers in C++ instead of safe types.
