Google search doesn't synthesize anything. It collects results and orders them according to an algorithm. Copilot and similar language models can synthesize new text. That's clearly different than just presenting existing text.

I think what you've shown is that everything is political to you . Most people don't see a bowl of fruit and see it as a political message.

The interesting bit (to me) is the algorithm. They automatically detect how slow each available swap space is, and how sensitive a workload is to memory latency and then swap memory pages into compressed dram or nvme storage in an optimal w

Yes! I find `git diff` to be the most annoying thing about git. I can be pretty forgiving of the clunky UX, but the diff output is just wrong. People often say of git, "The porcelain is bad but the plumbing is good". The opposite

These are two independent, but related, things. The bank indeed was guilty of not properly securing customer data. The breach exposes this, and the bank was fined and sued accordingly. Thompson is also guilty of wire fraud for the breach. Y

That's a pretty bad example. There is a technical / physical aspect to interoperability. If you want to swap your engine, the new engine needs to fit and mate up with your transmission (though, this is easier than you might think)

This is exactly the point. Simulated rain isn't real rain, it's a digital representation. So, the argument goes, that a simulated consciousness is not a real consciousness, but a digital approximation. It's as real as the fak

Alternatively, people cared about performance then. Nowadays programmers would rather do the slow, easy thing so they don't have to think as hard.

Any other way of representing the real numbers is going to have gotchas. Rational numbers take up more space and are slower to use, but also have real drawbacks like not being able to do sqrt or having to worry about overflow when doing a c

Rationals have their own set of issues: 1) it's really slow slow. Adding two fractions involves three integer multiplications and then running the GCD to simplify the fractions. 2) just simply comparing two rational numbers involves mu

It sounds like you just don't include performance in your acceptance criteria. You're using a lot of words to basically say that you don't care about performance. I don't find it acceptable to merge something that I know
