Which decimal? Fixed point, or floating point? Should the numerator and denominator be given the same bit width? How do you deal with overflow and underflow? Its easy to think of "decimal" as one thing because every language provi

Not at far as I know. That would require everyone to agree on one binary representation, which hasn't happened. There are tons of different fixed-point implementations out there, each with different tradeoffs. Choosing one implementati

Energy is energy. Regardless of what the source is, or how long the source runs, etc etc the amount of energy needed to heat the home is constant. So what matters when comparing options is the cost of a unit of heat energy ($/kwh). OP

I don't understand this position. You imply that any layoff is a fundamental and serious mistake. Zoom's revenue grew like 10X over the past two years. They had a legitimate need to hire and grow the business, and now the market h

Looking at municipal water usage per capita, US uses 175.9 m3 per capita Germany uses 236.5 m3 per capita Czechia uses 57.5 per capita So individuals in America (i.e. showering) do not use abnormally high amounts of water. The country in

Sure, but calling malloc at runtime is slow and maintaining an allocator isn't very useful if you can just restart the app every night. YAGNI ;)

Because the memory fills up. You pre-allocate a million orders, and send 800k orders a day, leaving only 200k free slots. You're going to run out mid day tomorrow if you don't restart.

If anyone is wondering, this is not a joke. Some of the trading systems I've worked on were designed to be restarted every night. The memory didn't "leak", but was designed this way - preallocate all the memory you could

You can't just put hydrogen in a tank like you can with i.e. propane. It's a real pain to deal with, and I don't think grid scale hydrogen will ever work out. It would make more sense to use the hydrogen to synthesize methane
