A strong judiciary, high bar to change the law, and harsh accountability. Still a fine line to walk.

SF ballooned their deficit by billions during the last bull market. Over $10 billion of unfunded pension and healthcare costs. The next recession is going to be brutal.

That last part is a good summary of companies going at it. The incumbent with crushing pension liability, bureaucracy, or rent seeking getting wiped out by a cutthroat competitor.

There are many articles over the years reporting the hedge fund moves from NY/CY to Miami. So they are bringing their $10M jobs with them in that case. If you’re wealthy enough to travel most of the year for businesss or pleasure, why

Her bank heist? She was there from the beginning, over 25 years ago. She didn’t just marry a billionaire. As long as Amazon remains stable I think their agreement, while it would be interesting, is none of my business.

Well put. The flight attendants are there to enforce FAA rules and assist in times of emergency. We are always free to lobby the FAA to relax flight rules, allowing small devices during takeoff is the largest change I can remember.

Over the years there has been a push to make the public realize the importance of the flight attendant role, that they aren’t there to serve drinks but to ensure your safety. “Here to save your ass, not kiss it” is one way I’ve heard it put

I don’t see why a bounty wouldn’t work in this case either. Certainly would cost more than $50 to raise a monkey to kill for bounty, when the entire bounty pool would be barely $20k. I doubt you need to even give a bounty though, just open

The miners aren’t looked at the same way in Ethereum because you don’t have the large concentration of mining to a handful of companies like Bitcoin. Also because from the very first whitepaper it’s been known Ethereum would move to PoS.

The stakers will lose their stake, and those shards affected will go offline, but the rest of the network will continue on until the interruption is over. Ethereum is designing the system specifically to accommodate that sort of problem, la

Sightseeing is nice, but what gets me excited is learning new skills while traveling. Culinary classes, language lessons, local skilled crafts/activities. I never get bored learning new things.

Fascinating article. My immediate response was that it was obvious, bookstores feel a lot like “home” to me, and that conditioning is well known. Why coming back to a familiar environment triggers a sudden urge to go to the bathroom https:

I don’t see major issues either. If they can make this work it reasons maintaining the eyes may be possible, and perhaps some auditory nerve capability too. I’d probably take the chance if faced with early death otherwise.

Anders went to space in ‘68. I think he’s lost the spirit of adventure he must have had to do so. Putting a human on Mars will be one of the pinnacles of human achievements, even a small ultimately failed colony an unbelievable achievement.

For $250 you can get the Cuisnart steam convection oven, far more versatile than either the Breville or June. Proofing and cooking bread with the steam makes a large difference, and you can steam cook roulades like they do in commercial kit

I’m in a Garden Inn now, never been in a bad one but always seem overpriced to me. I was pretty impressed with Home2 suites, usually just a bit more than Hampton. No omelette bar but otherwise nice breakfasts with microwaveable sandwiches,

I’ve stayed at 30+ different Hiltons this past year, and all but a few had free Wi-Fi. It’s always free if you book direct with them and I’ve never seen Hotels.com selling cheaper than direct (maybe it happens occasionally). Used to go with

Are you suggesting individuals should be able to default on the mortgage but still get to keep the house? Or that we should let the mortgages foreclose and people get kicked out, but not perform quantitative easing in that recession?

It's good and bad, like it or not oil is required for our modern society, and will be for a long time even as we transition away from it. In the meantime, eliminating our energy dependence on autocratic nations is a pretty big benefit.
