Apple have a range of ads to appeal to a range of people. Even back then they had the Mac vs PC or a variety of other ads too that weren’t “cool” but were funny. Tongue in cheek ads have been in their DNA since forever. Take for example the

This article is a prime example of why tech literate people aren’t inherently strong marketers for tech. What does the Ubuntu ad say to the user? How does it capture someone’s attention? None of the ad tells me why this is something worth p

You can mill them off and replace them with supported nands. People have videos on YouTube but it’s not very accessible to do. The issue is that Apple moved the storage controllers into their SOC. So they use raw nand chips, and you need to

They have better battery life and in some cases can come out ahead of Apple. But battery life alone isn’t a full story. You have to consider performance off the charger, and the percentage of compatible apps. Apple still pull ahead there.

iMac has active cooling, more ports and more power available to it to drive those ports (though the PSU is external, it’s still gotta have the internal circuitry to deliver that). Those all do have to go somewhere.

The CEO has resigned as of a month ago (or forced out rather) The primary investors seem quite upset with his handling of this. Rumours are that he was hostile to a buyout but in his lawsuit has also invalidated a lot of their own patents.

There’s two parts to it. Microsoft claims they need kernel level access to implement their paid for security product ( Windows defender while free for home use is not free for enterprise ) If they firmly believe that, then they cannot block

It’s definitely more vulnerable than macOS since macOS has more encompassing system protection (SIP), kernel extensions have been moved to user space (DriverKit and FSKit), and pervasive sandboxing.

I wish more folks would acknowledge that it’s JPEG XL in a DNG. It is no more useful as a JPEG Xl than the previous DNG standard was as a JPEG. Instead I always see tons of articles about how this will help its case on the web. This one doe

But that’s precisely it. You don’t switch at home for games, others don’t for other compatibility reasons either. I’m not specifically talking about games but the whole user experience. That’s not a knock against Linux. It’s great but it’s

The win is ideological not focused on pragmatism imho. Which is fair, but imho one should be honest with themselves if that’s where they’re coming from. If I can use that premise , then all the incongruity makes much more sense.

ARM want to raise the royalties for the cores designed by Nuvia, whose IP has now permeated all of Qualcomms IP. Again, your comments are pure conjecture not based on anything factual. I might as well just start saying how QC wants to rip o

The incumbent is not just x86 but now ARM as well. You have to think in network effects. You mention “the rest of the industry” yet ignore that it’s mostly arm , which would make arm the incumbent. x86 is the king for windows. But ARM has m

There’s a LOT of conjecture in your comment. Your very first line is one to begin with. ARM also doesn’t seem to care if QC design their own cores. They just care that they renegotiate the royalty agreement. This is clear if you actually re

They’re only losing their license to make custom cores. They’re still free to use ARMs own cores. The reason being that ARM gave Nuvia a license to design cores at a specific rate, then Qualcomm bought them to use those cores. ARM claims th

Fair, though I don’t think translation is a good long term strategy. You need native apps otherwise you’re always dealing with a ~20-30% disadvantage. The competition isn’t sitting still either and QC already hit this with Intel stealing th

ARM licenses cores for both CPU and GPU, not just the architecture. There are not “plenty of ARM chips designed by multiple companies”, almost all of them except for Apple (and now Qualcomm) use ARMs off the shelf design.
