This 1kb os json still sounds like a modern thing, where you need to download many MB of JavaScript code to execute and display the 1kb json data. What you want is to just download the 10-20kb html file, maybe a corresponding css file, and

This is the kind of stuff that makes me wish my Binary Diff Tool was already completed, but unfortunately I'm still working on it. Can't tell much what's wrong with the differences in the bytes without knowing what the struct

There's a corrupted photo at the top of the article and the non corrupt version at the bottom, is that not enough?

I read this article after it was shared on social media by the Codeberg.org account so I though it was a PR piece, as it doesn't mention self hosting at all, just moving to another hosted platform.

Even though Git is decentralised, people like having a simple client-server model for version control. So with Github being the most funded free Git hosting service it grew to being the biggest. They also built out the extra services on to

I read this article and then looked at my Github and a few other projects and found no issues created by Copilot. As someone else has said they need to be triggered manually, so therefore it's the same sort of problem as with the Curl

Funnily enough a lot of those "poor performing" UE games were actually UE4 still, not UE5.

There is something to having a monitor display at a higher than 60fps frame rate especially if the game runs and can process inputs at that higher rate as well. This just decreases the response time that a player can attain as there is lite

Games haven't been running full native resolution for quite some time, maybe even the last decade, as they tend to render to a smaller buffer and then upscale to the desired resolution in order to achieve better frame rates. This doesn

Yet it is the engine dominating the industry and beloved by artists of all kinds. To get UE games that run well you either need your own engine team to optimise it or you drop all fancy new features.

I would agree with the statement that you don't need to know or write in assembly to build programs, but what you end up with is usually slow and inefficient. Having curiosity to examine the platform that your software is running on an

Kind of sounds like using LLMs to generate code is like eating USA junk/fast food. It is quick and tasty, and you get a dopamine rush from that sugar and fat in your body, but it leaves you feeling unsatisfied and unsatiated.

As someone who is usually careful I too have found myself clicking past warnings and error notifications in recent times, mainly because I want to do something and the software is actively preventing me from doing that. It isn't neglig

Any idea how many devs are working at Microsoft on the C and C++ compilers these days? I've heard rumours that there's more on the Rust team and that C++ is taking a back seat.

Within game development it is predominantly immediate mode as it more closely resembles the main game loop. With other applications I'm not sure, some I know just use ImGui and run an immediate mode UI, others would be retained mode. I

I know that these days a lot of game and application developers just render a custom UI to a 2d or 3d rendering device. I've been looking for a UI framework like that as I don't want to write my own, but so far most of them have b

No, go down to assembler, just pick a smaller machine like a microcontroller where simpler programs can do more things more easily. When you know assembler you can always see what compiled programs run as no matter what language that progra

I think an EU salary of 200k/year is at least uncommon if not outright rare and definitely not median. At least in the tech space, maybe in finance it's more common.

Yes it can, but the point is that in a git repo you store the entire history locally, so whenever you clone a repo, you clone its history on at least one branch. So when you have a repo that's hundreds of GB in size, the entire history
