Someone has to be responsible for managing people and organising access to the appropriate machines for them to do their job, if it isn't their manager then who is?

Some manager asks IT multiple times over the course of a few weeks to create an account for a contractor, then give them permissions to access production type machines. Or a contractor that was fired had their credentials appropriated by th

The old trailer was done in 2013, real proper development started in 2017. What are you actually disappointed about, that it's not dark and gritty all the time?

Didn't a Tasmanian distiller win Whisky of the year some time this decade? I remember seeing a news segment on it.

The original trailer was completely CG done by an animation studio. This trailer is rendered in engine.

Tried it recently but it has some flaws, like locking up the browser when viewing ~5k values in a 3d scatter plot when viewed from certain angles.

That explain why the Office windows are laggy as hell when being moved. It's like they're not processing window messages quickly enough or something.

Even though a part of me wants to store everything (like Art) in exact detail when it was originally made, I'm building a certain appreciation for just letting things diminish and atrophy. Not needing to fix everything to be exactly ho

You are wrong because games released in the past few years are heavily multithreaded. The only game recently that I've seen not be multithreaded is Battletech. The latest Total War series are heavily multithreaded. As far as the cores

So if Disney win then they lose all their other piracy cases, but if they lose then they win their other cases? I'm not sure which one they would prefer to have, though this will most certainly be settled out of court with some signifi

So basically all that Valve has to do is to redirect everyone that wants to make a purchase through Safari to the Steam web based store. Then it would be doing all of the selling on the web like a normal store, but content consumption could

Actually my example is far simpler and less interesting. Having a console devkit read un-ordered file data from a local disk ends up being slower than reading the same data from a developer's machine from an SSD over a plain gigabit ne

Actually it is sometimes faster to fetch data over a network loading from SSD than it is to read from a local spinning disk. Source: current work.

Normal C++ bitfields? Sometimes you get that inside classes in the form of "bool x : 1; bool y : 1;" etc. But that's much harder to use as far as function parameters go, so old school bitmasks are used for that.

Nope, people actually just write the bit setting code. It's simpler and also I haven't found a good generic bit flags class that works as you intend.

A lot of the comments on the article remind me of the time people put those little gifs on their homepage to note that "optimised for Netscape Navigator" or "optimised for IE". Nice to see that Chrome is today's IE.

A good rule to follow would be that whenever auto is used the type that it would otherwise be has to be present in the statement, or that it's an iterator. That results in still seeing what type you have but not having to repeat yourse

I look it as a good experiment to find the right amount of auto to use. Go to one extreme and then see what bites you in practise, then make changes to where you use auto so that you get good and clean code.

For the most part you can apply some simple rules to transform the BNF notation from being left recursive to being right recursive. It's most useful when you have a right recursive language but are using yacc or bison for the parser.
