This has been covered on HN a few times, and I should point out that the sample size on this is in the low tens, so don't get too excited. But every time I see it, I remember a really odd side effect that I had while on a mood stabiliz

Hashes never increase the amount of information that's present, thus if there are 10^10 possible phone numbers, there are 10^10 possible hashes of phone numbers (with a given algorithm). How many bits you encode the information in doe

I've been wearing Google Glass every time I leave the house for 2 or 3 months now. My social interactions have certainly changed; lots of people either recognize it as Glass or ask about what it is. Bear in mind that this isn't in

Even if it does, it still won't help. Crypto in the browser is like playing soccer in a minefield: either you don't move or you lose a leg. Either way, your game is hosed. The issues are, to put it mildly, insurmountable. The envi

Honestly, it's the right move if they want even a chance at getting their money back. Best case if they go to the police: a long court battle with Mills in which they get a tiny fraction of their investment. At least this way has a cha

Interesting idea. Many crimes are committed due to a lack of options caused by poverty (theft most directly, but many other crimes are correlated strongly with poverty levels), so if a prison has to pay if a released prisoner re-offends, p

To be fair, the reason I got the NuForce Icon HDP is for my headphones (Sennheiser HD650); the DAC is great, but the preamp for headphones is downright spectacular. Anyway, it doubles as my DAC for my speakers.

The problem is that if the authors had actually consulted crypto guys, none of this would have happened. Their lack of security shouldn't be excused.

Have you read the paper? What that means is: no statistically significant links were found. But because of bias in the study, it's possible that we're wrong about the highest end of exposure, so this should be studied further. C
