Just ordered a new purifier from Vornado. Our previous one was a few years old and not up to the task. Thanks for the recommendation!

Best croissants I've ever had in the States were from frozen (albeit from a local bakery, not from the grocery store).

I love our Instant Pot! I keep finding uses for it. The other day I'd forgotten to thaw a 4-pack of pre-cooked chicken sausages. Threw them into the Instant Pot (steam tray w/ a cup of water under them), 5 minutes on low pressure

Completely agree. I use Rectangle, largely for the most basic thing that MacOS gets wrong: maximizing windows. It shouldn't be the same as "full screen". I know that you can double tap a window's top bar to maximize, but

I like video games. They're fun. I also waste time watching YouTube videos, etc. But the number of hours that user put into that game is quite literally 1/4 of all the hours since Stadia launched three years ago. It's nearly

If you are a software developer, check to make sure you aren't being impersonated on Upwork as well. A couple months back someone (I think I know who, but have no proof) was posing as me, and a suspicious client noticed that the person

Sorry your experience with it sucked - but that's simply not what it's like writing PHP today in a modern framework. It is literally a joy to work with for thousands upon thousands of people (and not just the newbies).

I use them all the time, as long as they can be written legibly. $result = $someCondition ? $foo->abc() : $foo->def(); To me that's much nicer than an if statement.

Why is that evidence that they are _better_ than PHP's ecosystem? That's the claim I'm skeptical of.

That's one way to look at it, but there is much better support now for writing code that behaves concurrently within a single web request.

You can write PHP with generics via docblocks that are understood by PhpStorm, the two leading static analyzers (PHPStan and Psalm), and soon by the Intelephpense plugin for VS Code. Since the main advantage for generics in a language like

I agree with you on portability. If that's a concern, and you're a web developer, I'd say TypeScript is a more obvious choice than Go, Ruby, etc. Re: "tools are better, more modern, with broader library support" - I

I always wonder, for folks who self-host on Droplets or EC2 - how do you handle provisioning the server to ensure that it's secure and has everything you need? I use Laravel Forge for this. I'm not a server admin and don't wa
