- User: I usually just skip this service and use OAuth + Login management library - Email: I remember it works with gmail; you can overwrite the "reply-to" header. - Image Upload: seems to work fine by uploading to blobstore or GC

You cant compare AppEngine with DO or Heroku with AWS. Yes, AppEngine is costlier than DO 5-10X is comparing cost of computation power. You pay the price for not having to deal with DevOps, scalability and some cool API/services.

Wikipedia could survive with donation. If AdBlocker is detected, website should prompt for donation (like Wikipedia) until a certain yearly amount is reach.

Assuming M$ is always evil is still a personal opinion, doesn't mean it's bad. Replace M$ with Google, Apple, Amazon or any other company doing the same thing, does it actually bring out any meaningful conclusion? I assume better

The author did mentioned "it's meant to complement it", I assume that is good: use if if you like it, ignore it if you don't. I guess the opinion of "not worthwhile" doesn't constitute good or bad either f
