You can rename EdgeDeflector.exe to msedge.exe and it works as-is. However, it will cause other problems with your system. The Edge background update system will also reverse the change within a day or so.

It’s not Edge that makes the decision on what program to use. It’s the Windows shell itself. I’m not aware of any third-party alternatives to OpenWith.exe.

You can do that. But programs like EdgeDeflector can’t be distributed doing changes like that. Every antivirus vendor including Microsoft SmartScreen will rightly block it for doing destructive changes.

Disk caching is still a thing. Kids watch the same videos on repeat for hours on end, so maybe almost-indiscriminately caching the entirety of the last watched video would be a good idea.

It’s not just small websites, though. Government information websites use YouTube too. Even activist websites criticizing the tech monopolies host with YouTube embeds. Even the distributed web/P2P platform IPFS hosts videos on YouTube

If I remember correctly, then your specific issue was supposedly fixed in one of the recent Insider builds. Windows Search is heavily cloud-dependent, and yes it’s performance suffers under poor network conditions.
