Whether you support trump or not, the level of patronage that corporations seem to think is needed is disturbing. I've never seen companies stoking a presidents ego so publicly. If there comes a day in the future where the header of ev

I did something similar for autogenerating RSpec tests in a Rails project. https://gist.github.com/czhu12/b3fe42454f9fdf626baeaf9c83ab3... It basically starts from some model or controller, and then parses the Ruby cod

It certainly feels like the need for climate change adaptation that's been foretold for years is starting to happen. There’s quite a bit of blame being thrown around regarding details like how much water was in the reservoir and the DE

Absolutely amazing work. I wonder what kind of funding / model could make something like this sustainable. Presumably, as manufacturing processes change, everything on this list has to be re-tested again? The current website has no way

I’ve noticed that the new form of cold emails is inviting you to a podcast. I’ve gotten at least 5 of those in the past month, hosted by companies that just so happen to sell software or services that are relevant in our industry.

I worked significantly in both Django and Rails, and I found the most magical part of rails is its ORM (ActiveRecord). I find both SQLAlchemy and DjangoORM both more awkward and less natural to use, both for the query side and the relations

I’ve found it effective in the past as a manager to assign the implementation of a feature, end to end to a junior developer, and basically rubber stamp their PRs. Our company has a culture of expecting the person who wrote the code to supp

Yeah so we used Vagrant way way back in the day to have an easy way to distribute dev environments. Definitely not an expert here as to all the alternatives, but for what we had, the devex felt fine.

Same thing happened to us. Moved to kubernetes 2 years and we had to rebuild all the features of Heroku in house against a kubernetes backend. I’ve been working in my spare time to try to create an open source version of this, in case it wo

Funnily enough, we made the exact same transition from heroku to DigitalOceans managed Kubernetes service, and saved about 75%. Presumably this means that had we moved from heroku to hetzner, it would have been 93% savings! The costs of clo

The actual nodes are still way more expensive on digital ocean than they are in Hetzner. That’s probably the main reason. 8GB RAM, shared cpu on hetzner is ~$10 Equivalent on digital ocean is $48

It’s almost like the opposite of the network effect moat that people used to think about social networks. At this point it feels like when these platforms hit a certain size, it’s time to move on to something smaller, without advertisers, l

This assumes your Postgres has a an infinite amount of memory which would also be very expensive. I think you'd probably want to assume each connection takes ~10-20MB of memory.
