I was intrigued by all the linked technologies, too. I've spent a day or so writing a site that I can't imagine being more than a few static pages, and it's just running on nginx on this VPS I bought. I can understand monitoring for a site

Remember nic.d [0]? Its domain was 'nic.d,' a secret site was at '__._', and someone "registered" '☠.d' and '(>^_(7 . )7'. 0: http://viewsourcecode.org/why/redhanded/cult/whoNicDOffWithT...

Interesting - I made it more legible by holding a camera up to the screen to magnify the pixels. And now I know what it says, I can read it normally.

I tend to write very freeform, please forgive me. My main computer is a desktop that hit a year old last month. It contains an AMD Phenom X4 @ 3.6GHz, 4GB RAM, and an SSD (60GB, one of the OCZ ones - I wasn't picky) for the OS and programs.

The thing that most amazed me about Common Lisp was not LOOP, but ITERATE. Specifically, "bill a"'s comments in this article (linking to the first one, there are several more down the page): http://www.randomhacks.net/articles/2005/12/03/w

You misunderstand - I don't mind what combination of tools people use to get work done, as long as they're happy with it. But on a site that tries to describe interesting setups, it eventually stops being so interesting.

I should hope not! Windows 7 is the only OS that can readily handle recent (within the last year) graphics cards, both for gaming and programming (when you can offset some calculations to the GPU, things become fast ). Whenever I try Linux

I think it's more the case that a lot of the interviewees don't explain how they arrived at the setup in question - they just list what they have, and that takes out the interesting bit. If you add in some history, you can make your first v

There are some good articles on there - Andrew "bunnie" Huang[1] shows us how he can be handed a next-day plane ticket and not miss any work time, Jason Rohrer develops games on a seven-year-old laptop[2], Mark Pilgrim explains haw his writ

Okay, you've just shown me how drab my working area is. Time to install some... trees. If I went on a road trip, I'd take a laptop, yeah - but I couldn't take my main computer. To me, it's not worth the risk of losing all that kit when a lo

I've heard some people say that only being able to see a small amount of code at a time forces good programming practices, compared to what you'd be able to do with a large monitor. Do you think that having such a small screen helps in this

Before I list my setup, I'd like to ask: What's with all the laptops? I worked off a 15-inch laptop for several years, but after using a desktop, I've completely converted. Laptops give you less screen space and less computational power, an

I'm currently writing a personal project for university, and I've made sure to test it all the way through. When I was part-way into coding this thing, I took a day to go through all the code and write tests for anything I could. I found a
