My experience has been entirely the opposite of yours. Fastmail has excellent (and personal) customer service whereas getting ahold of someone at Google is nearly impossible.

I haven't been able to reliably/easily get a project to compile on Linux into a self contained executable similar to Go. At one point this was advertised in blog posts as something that would be possible. Has this changed? I think

The major problem is at an enterprise scale (hundreds of thousands of servers and above) it becomes untenable due to the nature of ports tracking upstream and constantly in flux. It makes it difficult to support the applications and service
