Yep, I’m in this boat too. I’ve given up trying to get that feeling back at work. We were lucky for 20 years, now if we want to do it for craft it’s time to contribute to OpenBSD or something — with phish on, not for money.

I thought gleam was fully integrated with otp? You’re telling me you can’t do a gen_server or a supervisor in gleam?

I know a defence company that has a bunch of vaxes stored in low oxygen environments because they legally have to be able to provide software updates to firmware they’ve written for the next 20 or so years and it was written on a vax. They

Well, I’m doing a new erlang project at a large financial institution; there are a certain class of problems that are best solved by it. I don’t think elixir is a better target; erlang is overall a better language, once you get over the ini

It really feels like we’re solving the wrong problem sometimes. If a bad type can crash your application, sure, type safety is one answer but I have to admit I like the erlang approach; if something unexpected happens crash the process (not

I much prefer v60 to what i can produce with my aeropress, and one benefit is no plastic. Worth a try if you get the itch.

Temporal is a dumpster fire, they've gotten so much VC funding (recently had D, 300M at a 5bn valuation) with ... nothing to build except ways to trap customers into their SAAS. I give them about a year or two before the wheels fall

There's no Y axis. It doesn't mean anything. There could be a 10% difference since 2023 for all we know.

forgejo has been great for us. It scales remarkably far with the built in sqlite db also. Single binary, no deps. You ofc have the option to hook it up to a proper database server.

Yeah that's a tough spot to be in; I think though, your responsibility really ends with you at work, unless you're very high up on the management chain. Keep it simple right; in everything you do, make things a bit better than you

It's a bit of a weird place to be in as a senior engineer who has spent 2 decades perfecting his craft. So, on one hand, I'm also kinda sad and how quickly we've thrown the guardrails away, but on the other -- it's... We

They’ve done a few impressive things also, remember that time they converted the root filesystem on every ios device on the fly with a point release? Kudos to whoever clicked that particular button I’d have bricked it personally ;)
